Kristen and Patrick

Perfect Love

One late Sunday afternoon in August of 2063, Kristen and Patrick were sitting on a bench at SmithPoint beach.

They were reflecting on their lives at 72 years old.

Patrick thought, “We have been together 57 years. It has been quite an adventure.”

Kristen thought, “I know we have gotten married, had three kids, and now they are married with kids!”

Patrick thought, “I know and they have all turned out to be great people.”

The salty smell of the ocean made them think. So did the faint wrinkles on each other’s faces.

Patrick thought, “And we have healed so many babies as speech pathologists in the NICU. We have saved some lives.”

Kristen pondered, “I loved working in the same hospital as you. We have had so many laughs on our lunch break to distract us from the pain of the job.”

Patrick also pondered, “I know what you mean. We have also taken many fun vacations with our kids. I loved the magic of Disney, and the warm hearted people in Italy. All of Europe was a great time! It has been an amazing life with you.”

Kristen gushed internally. “It has!”

Patrick pointed to the water. He wanted to dip his feet in with his wife.

Kristen consented. They got up and held hands.

They walked down to the water. The cold surf covered their feet. The couple has always loved the beach. When Patrick was a teenager and in his twenties, he used to surf.

After a little while it was starting to get cold. The sun was starting to set and it looked so beautiful. The pinks and purples enveloped the sky. Bright oranges and reds too.

The couple held hands and left the water. They walked along the beach and looked at the sunset. Suddenly an Eagle started to fly across the sky.

Kristen knew that was a sign from her great grandmother that her time was coming near. Patrick knew this too.

Patrick thought, “What do you want to do before we pass away?”

Kristen pondered, “I want to go to Hawaii. We have never been there.”

Patrick thought, “I hope our children don’t put us in a home!”

Kristen laughed silently, “They won’t.”

The couple looked at each other and laughed.

Patrick internally stated, “When do you want to get out of here?”

Kristen internally stated, “Now. I want to have some of that lemonade our granddaughter Vanessa made.”

Patrick agreed silently, “Me too.”

Patrick and Kristen drove home to their cabin a few minutes away. He poured a glass of lemonade for him and his wife.

The lemonade was delicious, very pink and sweet. They decided to give their robot Gio a rest for the night. He usually helped them with chores.

They decided to watch the show, “Friends.” It was still playing all night on Nick and Nite even after 40 years.

They both fell asleep and passed away together in their sleep.

Even though their family was devastated, they knew that the couple had lived life well.

They looked down at their family from Heaven and sent them kisses. They thought to them, “We love you and we love each other.”

The End.
