She woke up and looked at the ceiling with great disgust, as if the decades-old roof were mocking her. Her surroundings were a true reflection of her poverty and helplessness. Laura was a twenty-three-year-old beautiful young woman with a fair complexion and grey eyes. Her glittering golden-brown hair, when it fell across her face, enhanced her beauty many times over.

Laura had married Noah four years earlier in the mesmerizing old Italian town of Calabria. It had been love at first sight. Later, they started spending time together, and their love grew stronger day by day. In a short time, their love became so intense that they decided to marry immediately. Ironically, however, the true picture of life only begins to reveal itself when reality sets in, and for Laura, that reality began soon after her wedding.

Noah was handsome and loving, but he was not financially stable enough to fulfill all of Laura’s dreams. Like any ordinary girl, Laura had imagined her life as a fairy tale, but her dreams were shattered badly. She accepted it as the will of God and continued living in silence.

One day, while returning from the farm where she picked olives and grapes, she was hit by a black S-Class Mercedes. A middle-aged man rushed out of the car, helped her up, and politely asked, “I hope you are fine, young lady.” Laura nodded in response.

The stranger insisted on dropping her home, and that was the moment Laura began thinking once again about her forgotten dreams. She started remembering the wishes she had buried deep within her heart long ago.

The man dropped her home but was fascinated by her youth and beauty. The next day, he arrived at Laura’s house carrying a bouquet of pink roses and tulips to check on her. At first, Laura was hesitant, but eventually they began talking normally. The stranger, Leo, was not young, but he was immensely polite. His soft tone made Laura feel as though something important was missing from her life.

They talked for hours, completely losing track of time. Before leaving, Leo gave Laura his phone number and told her she could call him anytime if she needed anything.

As time passed, Laura’s relationship with Noah grew weaker, and she believed she had finally found the reason why. Shortly afterward, she ended her marriage with Noah and remarried Leo.

After the wedding, Laura became completely absorbed in luxury. She finally had everything she had ever dreamed of — a luxurious house, expensive cars, jewelry, and branded clothes. Everything was available to her with a single phone call.

However, after two years of marriage, she began to realize that Leo was losing interest in her. He was no longer as loving and enthusiastic as he once had been.

One day, while returning home from shopping, Laura saw a young woman sitting in the front seat beside Leo in his car. Furious, she somehow managed to control her anger and returned home, anxiously waiting for Leo to come back.

Her eyes remained fixed on the wall clock as it struck midnight. Suddenly, Leo entered the house and asked why she was still awake so late. Ignoring his question, Laura asked sharply, “Where were you?”

At first, Leo tried to make excuses, but Laura told him she had seen him with another woman.

He replied coldly, “It’s my life, and I’ll do whatever I want. I love her, and if you have a problem with that, deal with it — because I don’t care.”

A deep silence filled the room. Laura sighed. She had so much to say, yet she could not find the courage to speak. At that very moment, she was reminded of Noah. He may not have been rich, but he had been loyal and loving — and she realized that she had betrayed the very thing that once made her truly happy.
