Just another day

Living with depression

By MayPublished 3 years ago 2 min read

Emily woke up at once to the sound of her alarm piercing through her ear. She groaned and rolled over to shut it off and took a deep breath after seeing the notification that stated she had received 53 new messages. She ignored the notification as she had been doing for the last few weeks, ever since she had been fired from her job. Every little thing, even replying to her messages seemed strenuous to her.

She laid there in her bed, agonizing about all that she needed to do. Find a new job, clean the apartment, go grocery shopping. But the thought of even getting out of bed felt overwhelming. She finally got out of bed and dragged herself to the kitchen. There was nothing to eat.

The doorbell rang.

It was her friend June. She made her way into the apartment.

"Girl, what have you done to yourself? when was the last time you showered?" June questioned with a sympathetic look. "Can you not, I'm already dealing with a lot!" Emily replied. "Ok fine, but I'm your friend and you can't continue to shut me out like this." June said."You know what, you go take a shower and I'll try to clean this place up" June continued as she pushed Emily into the bathroom

When her shower ended, Emily walked back into the living room and was astounded at the sight of her apartment, which she hadn't seen so clean in weeks. She felt relieved and it raised her hopes a little.

She and June made their way to the grocery store and Emily noticed how perfect the weather was. It was sunny but there were clouds and the air was not-so-cold. On their way, they saw a fluffy cat and forced by her nature, June had to stop to pet it. Emily also decided to pet the cat and she felt weirdly happy.

After their grocery trip, June bought them ice cream. Cookies n cream always seemed to uplift Emily's mood and that's what it did this time, too. At the end of the day, June decided to stay over and they watched their favorite comedy movie. Emily felt herself laugh after such a long time and she felt a twinge of hope.

Although her depression hadn't been cured, she still felt hopeful. Hopeful that things will turn out right. Hopeful that she'll get a job. Hopeful that the next day will be good.
