“Simon, I’m not sure I want you to bring Tanya around here anymore. She’s rude, petulant and totally disrespectful to both your father and I.”

Simon shook his head at his mother, clearly disappointed. “Mum, please give her time. She’s very shy and she’s traumatised from an extremely violet relationship she was in before she met me. Please be patient Mum, is that too much to ask?”

“Too much to ask? Simon, she doesn’t even say hello to us. It’s not like I expect her to give a lengthy speech, but a simple hello — is that too much to ask?”

This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'speech'.

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Hmmm, a simple hello definitely ain't too much to ask. But if she has so much trauma, then maybe Simon shouldn't be bringing her with him. I mean, why put her in situations that might trigger her. She needs time to heal. I loved how speech inspired this story!
