“Do you mind if I change first?”
I nod at June, hoping she will get some semblance of reassurance. Though, I’m sure my face presents as hesitant.
I turn my head while she slips out of her silky dress and into her favorite jeans. We don’t know each other like that anymore.
“Is there a reason you came here...tonight?” I ask, only to hear my neighbors wind chimes in the distance. Until, I hear her footsteps behind me. But I don’t yet look back.
June’s hand glides across my braid as she mumbles, “Because of you.”
