Jamal Still Standing

 In small, peaceful village, there lived a young man named Jamal. In his teenage years, Jamal was known for his wild behavior, often drinking and engaging in reckless activities. However, his life began to change when he met Aisyah, the granddaughter of a highly respected kiai in the village. Aisyah was graceful and virtuous, making Jamal fall deeply in love and decide to transform his life.

After living a better life and getting closer to Allah, Jamal proposed to Aisyah. Aisyah’s family, including the kiai, saw the positive changes in Jamal and accepted his proposal. Happiness filled both families, and wedding preparations began.

While Jamal was working in a distant city, he was trapped by a woman named Mirna. Mirna, already pregnant by another man, exploited Jamal’s drunken state to deceive him. When Jamal regained consciousness, Mirna claimed he was responsible for her pregnancy.

His friends spread the news, causing an uproar. Feeling obligated, Jamal decided to marry Mirna until her child was born, promising to divorce her afterward. Before marrying Mirna, Jamal, along with his loyal friend Jaiman, approached Aisyah’s family and his own to confess his predicament.

"Aisyah, I need to tell you something. It's not easy, but I must be honest," said Jamal, his voice trembling.

"What is it, Jamal?" Aisyah asked, worried.

Jamal explained everything. After hearing Jamal’s explanation and seeing his sincerity, Aisyah’s family decided to give him a chance. They agreed that after Mirna’s child was born and Jamal divorced her, the engagement between Jamal and Aisyah could resume. Jamal married Mirna as planned.

A few months later, Mirna gave birth to a baby boy. Ensuring the child’s welfare, Jamal divorced Mirna and continued his relationship with Aisyah. They lived happily, blessed with righteous children.

Twenty years later, a new problem arose. Mirna’s son, now grown, searched for his father through Facebook. The entire village was shocked, as they had never known Jamal was previously married and had a child. Jamal became the subject of gossip, and Aisyah faced the neighbors' curiosity.

Jamal wanted to tell Mirna’s son the truth about his biological father, but Jaiman objected.

"Jamal, if you tell the truth, it could destroy him mentally. He has worked so hard to find his father. It's better if you acknowledge him as your son," Jaiman said firmly.

Jamal agreed, and when he met Mirna’s son, he claimed to be his father. Though difficult, he believed this was the best course.

Two years later, Aisyah was diagnosed with breast cancer. Aisyah’s siblings accused Jamal of causing her illness by making her worry excessively.

"Aisyah is sick because of you, Jamal! Always causing her to overthink!" her brother accused.

Only Aisyah’s father continued to support Jamal. Gossip spread throughout the village that Jamal was the cause of Aisyah’s sickness. Despite his sadness and the villagers' disdain, Jamal cared for Aisyah with dedication. Working as a mechanic with a modest income, he cared for Aisyah and funded his child's education. Jamal slept only 1-2 hours each night but remained steadfast in his responsibilities.

Six months later, Aisyah’s condition worsened because she refused surgery and chose alternative treatments. Feeling her time was short, Aisyah sought Jamal's forgiveness.

"Jamal, forgive me for what my family did to you. They hurt you," Aisyah said weakly.

Jamal held Aisyah’s hand, tears streaming down. "I’ve already forgiven you, my love. Don’t think about it anymore."

A few days later, Aisyah took her last breath at 3 a.m. while Jamal was caring for her. The village mourned, and Aisyah’s family apologized to Jamal for their mistreatment.

"We are deeply sorry, Jamal. We misjudged you," Aisyah’s brother said, his voice filled with regret.

Jamal lived his days with acceptance and strength, despite the deep sorrow of losing Aisyah. He continued to work diligently to support his child's education, facing each day with unwavering responsibility and faith.
