‘DAKOTA FAWN-JACEY HUMAN’

PART 3 OF 4

BY

This close to Chickaloon they were both at risk of being discovered together and for both this may mean the end of their lives.

The two young males walked all day, only stopping when the sun set over the now capped mountains. This brought an end to their dramatic day; they had survived and were still together. Both Jacey and Dakota thought this at the same time. Even their thinking was becoming synchronized.

They sat arm in arm around the campfire they had made. They watched it burn carefully as they did not want to be responsible for starting another wildfire and destroying more of the grand forest and its other inhabitants.

The next morning was glorious. Jacey and Dakota laid together for the best part of the morning listening to the birds and trees sing in the unburnt areas of the forest.

“Come Dakota we must travel deeper into the forest.” Jacey said as he rose to his feet.

“Just five more minutes” Dakota begged.

“What are minuets” Jacey enquired.

“Never mind.” Dakota smiled as he too rose from the forest floor.

It was a beautiful journey back to the deep forest, the only place they were both safe, the only place in the world where a Fawn and a Human could be together.

The late summer meadows and clears were stunning. Juvenile hummingbirds feed from tubular flowers such as the pink, spotted in purple flowers of the foxgloves while they walked through one particular field, they were able to enjoy the large purple drifts of cosmos flowers interrupted by bright yellow sunflowers. The grass they walked upon was full of strawberry clover.

“Let’s just stay here for eternity” Dakota suggested.

“We can’t. We are still in range of the summer hunting parties” Jacey explained.

“YES, YOU ARE”! a strange voice shouted.

The pair turned to see who it was.

“Oh no” Dakota said under his breath. “I so sorry Jacey” he said as he lowered his head. They had both been so enchanted by the wildflowers that they failed to hear the horses of the hunting party approaching. Leading the hunt was the loan shark that Dakota owed a tremendous debt.

“Well, well Dakota I would say that it is nice to see you but it isn’t, you’re as naked now as the day you were born” the shark said as he spat out a mouth full of chewing tobacco.

For the first time in over a year Dakota once again felt shame been naked in front of others, so he placed a hand over his manhood to maintain some dignity.

The shark’s shot gun was now pointed directly at Dakotas face. He was powerless to help Jacey who was been taunted and spat on because of his horns and wild nature. None of the hunters could look into his bright yellow eyes as they were intimidated by them so they rode their horses around the fawn, at gunpoint, so he could not escape.

“Hay boss” the hunters called out to the shark. “His boyfriend has horns.” They yelled in surprise.

“Bind the horned beast” The loan shark ordered.

“My Dakota, I must thank you” The lead of the party lowered his shotgun.

“Why?” Dakota asked fearfully.

“You have just paid your debt back to me with more than enough interest.” The shark explained.

“No!” Dakota begged, the shark was not going to hurt him, Jacey though, was now in great danger.

“Yes, your fawn is coming with us” the evil man laughed knowing he had just destroyed something beautiful for kicks.

“You can’t hurt Jacey” Dakota pleaded again but his words fell on deaf ears.

“Your boyfriends’ kind is meant to be gone, extinct. How much do you think I could get for his embalmed body from the Museum of Natural History or a passing freak show…possibly millions”? Again, he laughed at Dakota. He enjoyed watching his heart break.

The two other hunters had bound Jacey’s hands and led him off with a rope tied around his neck, so he had to walk quickly to keep up with the horses.

A single tear ran down Dakota’s face as he witnessed his life companion disappear from the meadow of flowers as a prisoner of his loan shark. This is all my fault he thought to himself.

CONCLUDES IN PART 4 “The Traveling Caravan of Freaks”.
