The Human Spirit

You once stared at the ceiling, now you gaze at the stars.

You twice cowered to darkness, still you feel the sun.

You thrice fell to your knees, yet you look to the sky.

You've been countlessly beaten, but you never gave up.

The world has been cruel, therefore you'll be kind.

Your mind has been bleak, so your heart persists soft.

You've conceded to weakness, still for others, you're strong.

You should have been broken, but you built yourself up.

You can't help but remember all you've despised;

Though you will never forget all you hold dear.
