I saw mommy

For Raymond G. Taylor's "Oh Jeff flash fiction challenge"

By JBazPublished 2 years ago 1 min read

“Oh Jeff, I love you too… but... you must never tell daddy what you saw. You don’t want mommy to get in trouble do you?“

Little Jeffery, confused at first is now scared, shakes his head, while his young world blurs through tear filled eyes. The excitement of tomorrow morning vanishes like the ghost of Christmas past. He dares a glance back at the mistletoe hanging over the archway, and sees red.

Her hands tremble, praying her son wakes up in the morning thinking this was nothing but a dream.

Yet, the tingling sensation of his beard and taste of cookies and milk still lingers upon her lips. Silently she curses her weakness for a man in uniform.

Merry Christmas
