The two of them swayed their way to the school gate. Along the way, Wang Zibo talked a lot while Chen Hansheng barely responded. He was trying hard to adapt to the Hongcheng of seventeen years ago.

After graduating from university, Chen Hansheng felt that the economic development in his hometown was not good, so he stayed in the provincial capital, Jianye, to strive for success. Occasionally, he would go home to see his parents, but it was always in a hurry, and he didn't have time to pay attention to the changes in his hometown.

Only in the drunken early hours of the morning would he feel a strange touch and memories welling up from the bottom of his heart, but the next day, they would quickly be replaced by the busyness of reality.

"What's the point of being reborn for someone like me?"

Chen Hansheng felt extremely frustrated. His 2019 self was wealthy, had status, a company, and subordinates, completely contradicting the basic conditions of a reborn person – "wearing a green hat, both parents deceased, impoverished, and suffering from hunger and cold."

"Damn it, I really didn't want to be reborn!"

Chen Hansheng couldn't help but curse. Wang Zibo was babbling about the embarrassing incident last night when Chen Hansheng got drunk and insisted on confessing to Xiao Rong in front of everyone. Chen Hansheng interrupted, "Are you even listening to me?"

"Oh, I heard," Chen Hansheng casually replied, then patted his pockets. No wallet, no phone, no quick payment. He sighed and said to Wang Zibo, "Do you have any money? I want to buy something from the convenience store."

"Are you buying water?"

Wang Zibo was considerate. He knew that after a hangover, one's mouth would be dry, especially on a hot day like today.

"What do you want, Jianlibao or Coke?"

Wang Zibo was ready to treat.

"Just mineral water, and get a pack of cigarettes while you're at it," Chen Hansheng replied.

Wang Zibo widened his eyes suddenly, couldn't help but scrutinize Chen Hansheng, "Since when did you start smoking? How come I didn't know?"

Chen Hansheng was a little impatient. He didn't remember his childhood friend being so chatty before. He waved his hand and said, "Feeling bad, just need a smoke to ease it."

After hesitating for a moment, Wang Zibo obediently went to buy cigarettes. The convenience store was right outside "Hongcheng No. 1 High School." Chen Hansheng looked at the spacious iron gate, thinking that this was the memory of my three years in high school, more than a thousand days.

Soon, Wang Zibo returned. "Here, your cigarettes."

"Haha, it's been a while since I've seen Red Pagoda," Chen Hansheng couldn't help but laugh. Since he started working, he rarely smoked this brand. Skillfully tearing open the packaging, he handed one to Wang Zibo. "Do you smoke?"

Wang Zibo hesitated for a moment but ultimately decided to accompany his brother for one smoke.

Wang Zibo still had the typical mentality of a student, and his face was relatively thin-skinned, unlike Chen Hansheng, who had been through the ravages of society, with a different measure of doing things.

Chen Hansheng rolled up his trouser legs to his knees, sat on the roadside curb, and smoked thoughtfully, squinting as he pondered over the past students.

Wang Zibo smoked nervously, turning his head while smoking, quickly taking a puff and hiding the cigarette butt behind him, then exhaling smoke from his mouth like a teapot.

Although Wang Zibo smoked cautiously, he glanced at Chen Hansheng and commented, "Xiao Chen, you look pretty cool when you smoke."

Chen Hansheng was an old smoker, even flicking the ashes rhythmically.

"It's just practice," Chen Hansheng replied lightly, making Wang Zibo even more envious. Chen Hansheng's expression at the moment was both pretentious and deserving of a beating, but undeniably handsome.

Before they finished their cigarettes, a group of people on bikes approached. Wang Zibo quickly extinguished the cigarette and reminded Chen Hansheng, "Quick, throw it away."

Wang Zibo's action startled Chen Hansheng. "Are there teachers among them?"

"No teachers, all our classmates," Wang Zibo explained.

Chen Hansheng was about to throw it away, but upon hearing this, he reconsidered. He respected the profession of teachers, but why bother about high school classmates after graduation? What else could they do after all these years?

This group of students was probably here to pick up their admission letters, full of anticipation and longing for college life. They chatted and laughed along the way. When they passed by Chen Hansheng and Wang Zibo, they all stopped.

Chen Hansheng's current appearance was very sloppy, with both the fatigue from the hangover and the confusion from being reborn. Sitting untidily, he had a cigarette dangling from his mouth. If it weren't for his 18-year-old face, he would have looked like a complete middle-aged greasy uncle.

The classmates looked at Chen Hansheng in surprise. In a school like Hongcheng No. 1 High School, where education was emphasized, even female students were not allowed to keep long hair, so smoking was almost a sign of decadence.

"Are you all here to pick up your admission letters?" Wang Zibo felt it necessary to say something.

The group of students remained silent, their gaze shifting to a girl in the middle.

This girl was really beautiful. The floral skirt swayed gently in the evening breeze, exuding a lively charm. She was at least 1.67 meters tall, and due to the hot weather, her face was adorned with a faint blush. With straight nose, rosy lips, round chin, clear and bright eyes beneath thick eyelashes, and soft hair naturally falling on her shoulders.

When the girl approached riding her orange bicycle, Chen Hansheng could even smell a faint lily fragrance.

"Chen Hansheng, how could you smoke!"

Her voice was pleasant, but there was some anger in it.

Chen Hansheng couldn't remember who she was at all, so he could only turn his head to look at Wang Zibo. Wang Zibo didn't understand his intention either, just stared at him wide-eyed. Chen Hansheng had no choice but to ask, "Who are you?"

"Hmm."

The group of soon-to-be college students on bikes sighed, especially the girls couldn't help but shake their heads. It turned out that what they said in TV dramas was true. Men change their minds quickly. Just last night, they were confessing to someone, and now they could pretend not to know them just because of rejection.

"Hansheng, you shouldn't be like this."

Another boy walked out of the crowd, tall and warm when he smiled. "Smoking isn't your style. I hope you can get out of the shadow of your failed love and embrace a better tomorrow. We all look forward to your progress."
