How Is It Possible

Word of the Day : Face

I heard a frantic pounding at the door. Before I could understand what was happening, I flew from my bed, my heart trying to escape through my throat.

I race down the hallway to the front door and peer through the side window, not sure what to expect.

There looking back at me is a face I never thought I’d see again. Not in this lifetime anyway.

Am I dreaming? This must be a continuation of my dream surely!

I fling open the door. “Mum, mum,” I scream. “How are you standing here on my porch? I buried you yesterday!”

This drabble has been written as part of the daily Drabble Drop challenge and today's random word, that must be included in the drabble, is 'face'.

To make this more interesting we had to start the Drabble with the beginning words “I heard a frantic pounding………”

Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :

A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful idea in a confined space.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
