Heart of Immortals | Chapter 2
From The Romance of Gods and Demons Series

How to start my mission without raising the suspicion of this sharp-eyed vampire demon in front of me? We had been sitting in the drawing room for almost half an hour, and all this time, he didn’t even utter a single word. Seriously, he had been eyeing me like a hawk the moment he walked in.
Doesn’t he know that it’s rude to stare? Or did old age already catch up to him so that he didn’t even realize how uncomfortable I was right now?
I looked at him suspiciously. He’s handsome. It’s a given. He has an appearance that most females would die to see. But his good looks are downplayed by his rigid personality. I didn’t even know why he invited me here.
Wait, is he trying to intimidate me? Well, guess what, dude? I am not scared even a little!
I stared back at him and tried not to close my eyes. I made sure to make myself as fierce as possible. I am never gonna lose to you, bro!
He must have realized what I had been doing, and his gaze became sharper. I noticed that his face was becoming flushed. Huh! He must be having a hard time challenging me. It’s too late to back out now dude.
The victory was already in sight when all of a sudden, the door opened. This caused me to close my eyes unintentionally.
I lost.
Then the servants entered the room and brought in food. Lots of food.
I looked at him, mad. This must be planned. He tried to distract me by letting the servants open the door. And he succeeded.
Ughh! I hate losing!
“Eat,” he told me. Now that you won, you want me to move on? No way!
“Why?” I asked him suspiciously.
“You’re hungry.”
“I am not.” As if to prove his point, my stomach started growling. Even my stomach is not on my side!
“Eat,” he said again. This time, I picked up the spoon and fork on the side. I don’t think I could pretend any longer. I am, indeed, hungry.
I started with a bowl of soup. Then, I proceeded with beef, pork, and chicken. All of which are cooked to perfection. This must be one of the perks of Royals, to eat perfect food. I didn’t even taste anything that was burnt or half-cooked. Every food tasted perfect. As I continued wolfing down the food on the table, I noticed that the King had stopped eating. A corner of his mouth was raised. I squinted my eyes. Is he laughing at me?
He’s laughing at me!
“Is there anything funny?” I asked him, offended.
“You,” he answered without hesitation. How dare he!
“What?!”
“Don’t get me wrong.” He tried to explain. “I just like that you do not try to pretend in front of me.”
Is he saying I am shameless?
I grabbed a glass of water and drank. Then I wiped my mouth with the napkin on the table.
“Why did you invite me?” He looked at me fiercely. Is he mad again?
“I just wanted to spend time with you.”
O-kay… I looked at him, trying to gauge his sincerity. I wanted to catch a hint of whether or not he was just messing with me.
“Why do you want to spend time with me?”
“I want to know more about you,”
“Why?” Does he still think I am a spy?
“Because you are my mate,” Then I remembered what we did back then. I could not deny the extreme emotions I felt when I was with Chaos... in his glorious arms. It was the first time that I felt something so pleasurable but scary at the same time. I am afraid of what could have happened back then. If the servants didn’t interrupt us, he could have taken advantage of me, and worse, I might have enjoyed every moment of it.
“Says who?” I tried to distract myself from remembering.
“You,”
What? Did I say anything to him when I was unconscious? Or when we were doing that?
“Me? When?”
Instead of answering, he stood up and walked towards me.
“I have to leave now, love.” Then he bowed to my eye level. He touched my cheeks gently and kissed me with passion. It was about a full minute before he finally let me go.
Just like that, he left. But his absence did not deter my body from feeling hot. Ughh! Can’t he just stop messing with me!
After finishing my meal, I decided to visit the garden first before returning to my room. On my way, however, my path was blocked by a group of female vampires.
“Bitch!” The yellow-haired vampire called me. I could definitely recognize that her hair was not natural. Like the rest of them. They must have dyed their hair! Don’t get me wrong. I have nothing against hair dyes. I just don’t quite agree with their choices of color. But who the hell am I to judge, right? It’s a free kingdom after all. And I have red hair. I could join them!
“Yeah, bloodsucker?”
“How dare you!” The one with green hair said. “Don’t you know who we are?”
“Uhm…” I looked at them, trying to think if I had ever met them before. But I couldn’t remember ever meeting vampires with rainbow hair colors. “No.”
My answer seemed to anger them more. They turned their backs on me and started to murmur with one another.
“I told you it’s impossible.” I heard one of them say,
“Yeah, I couldn’t fathom how the King would like her,″ one of them added. “She looks dumb.”
Careful. You’re treading in thin line girls…
“Agreed,” the rest of them said.
Then, they faced me again with superior looks on their faces.
“It seems we had a little misunderstanding,” the blue-haired vampire said. “There’s no way the King liked you.”
“You’re a wolf.” Right, I am
“You’re dumb.” I am not!
“Your hair is red.” Ughh! You don’t have the right to criticize me.
I took a deep breath. I really wanted to rest in my room. I have no time for this drama. I tried to pass through them, but one of them held my arm.
“What’s so special about you?” The one with the blue hair asked. “Don’t think that the King will actually like you! He never paid attention to any female demon.”
Great!
“Do you know why?”
Is he gay?
“Why?”
“Because the daughter of the prime minister likes him.” Another female demon likes him
Someone of high birth,
For some reason, I felt knots forming inside my stomach. Did I overeat?
“Are they engaged?” I asked.
“No…”
“Are they together?” I asked again.
“No.”
“Are they even dating?”
“No, but-”
“Then the King is free to be with anyone he likes,” I said calmly. “Even with a red-haired wolf.”
Then I released myself from her hold and walked out, not wanting to hear anything that may further ruin my day.
