Two neighbors preceded Jupiter and asked him to fulfill their hearts' longing. Presently, one was loaded with voracity, and the other was eaten up with envy. So to rebuff them both, Jupiter conceded that each could have anything he wanted for himself, but only on the condition that his neighbor had twice as much. The Ravenous man petitioned to have a room loaded with gold. No problem at all; yet everything in his bliss was gone to sorrow when he found that his neighbor had two rooms brimming with the valuable metal. Then came the turn of the Jealous man, who couldn't tolerate thinking that his neighbor had any euphoria whatsoever. So he asked that he could have one of his own eyes put out, which implies that his sidekick would turn out to be thoroughly visually impaired.
