The sun momentarily blinded Leo as the ceiling gave way to the floor above. It had been a long time waiting and second guessing whether this plan would work. But after recruiting specialists he needed and deciding the exact moment to pull off the heist, he was just moments away from success.
Topper cleared the debris enough to open an access to the main chamber of the museum. Leo led the way followed by Kim, Rafe and then Topper. As they looked around, the morning light streamed through the glass ceiling and showcased their target. The Chicago Arts Museum was the home of the "Celestial Pink Diamond ", valued at over 70 million dollars.
Rafe had re-programmed the security system to disconnect all the laser monitors so that Kim could get to the podium display without setting off the alarms. As her skillful hands slipped two long blades through the casement display, Leo attached a suction apparatus over the glass dome. With a gentle tug, the dome lifted easily, and the jewel was in his hands.
That was actually too easy, Leo thought, but when plans work, they work.
Back down the access hole and out to the windy city!
