Goldie and the Three Bearskin Rugs

For Stephanie's Adulting Children's Stories challenge

By Julie LacksonenPublished 2 months ago • 4 min read

Don't judge, but I'm a nude model. I'm putting myself through college to be a veterinarian. Even with scholarships, medical school is expensive, but I'm investing in my future.

When I told my roommate, Alice, about the job offer, she said, "Hell, yeah! Goldie, if I looked like you, I'd probably be doing porn too."

I laughed and said, "You'd probably do it for free, just for the experience."

"True that."

"Not me. I'm no virgin, but I do have a line I won't cross, and getting paid to have sex with strangers - even if they're well-endowed - leaps beyond it."

She patted my blonde-haired head and said, "Well, if you hear of anyone looking for a short, slightly heavy girl who is game for just about anything, contact me post haste."

"Will do. I guess I'll give modeling a try."

That was two years ago. I make much more money than any other burger-slinging or cashier-ringing job I could have found. I don't always model nude. I've done brochures and ads. I've modeled nude for art classes and partially nude for a couple of fashion shows.

Then, the strangest thing happened two months ago. I was supposed to pose nude on a bearskin type of rug, but what the furniture store sent was an awful monstrosity with a fake-looking bear head attached to it. The photographer, Jack, went ballistic. "What the hell were they thinking? I can't work with this. This rug is much too dark. And creepy. Goldie, do me a favor and run this thing back to Urban Living and get me something softer and sexier. I'll photograph Raven on the couch while you're gone."

I was fine with that. I was getting paid by the hour. It was only a 20-minute drive.

After parking, I started wrestling with the huge rug in my trunk and thought better of it. I'd get some help from a clerk. The man who greeted me was quite handsome. He said, "Welcome in. How may I help you?"

"Well, I have a rug in my trunk I need to exchange. Can you help me bring it in?"

"What's the reason for the exchange?"

"If you must know, I was supposed to model on it, and they don't want head. I'm mean, they don't want a head on it." I felt my cheeks burn. Knowing they were red only made me more embarrassed.

"Ah, yes, I remember that order. I was surprised when he said he wanted bearskin. I told him we don't carry it, and he said to send something that looked like it. So, your, er, husband didn't like it?"

"Oh, no way. Jack's my boss - the photographer for this shoot."

"Fine. Show me to your car."

He looked at the rug crammed into my Corolla and chuckled. "Let's get this in and find something suitable."

As we walked towards the entry, I inquired, "Do you need manager approval?"

"No, I'm the owner."

I did not see that coming. "Oh, cool. You seem so young to own a store."

"It was my father's, and he passed away. I'm an only child, so here I am." He shrugged.

"Sorry."

"Don't mention it. So, what does the photographer want now?"

"He said something soft and sexy."

"Oh, uh, okay." I could swear he was blushing. He showed me a soft, pink rug. "Will this do?"

"I suppose. If it doesn't, can I come back?"

"Oh, yes, any time. Er, I mean, of course. We're open until 6:00. I'll help you load this now." He was fidgeting with his watch.

When I got back to the shoot, Jack said, "NOOO! Are you crazy? This rug is too pink. Go get something neutral."

I said, "I'll try. They close in 20 minutes."

"Go then. Take your time and get it right. I'm working with Veronica now."

Traffic had me there just after 6:00. It looked dark. I knocked. Loudly. Finally, the handsome owner unlocked the door. I felt the urge to kiss him.

He smiled. "I so want to kiss you right now."

My mouth dropped open. "What?"

"Oh, sorry. I didn't mean to say that out loud."

That's when I jumped at him. Our tongues were entwined and our hands were groping. I had never been so hot for someone I had just met. Too hot.

He clicked the door locked and grabbed me by the hand, pulling me towards a bed. I said, "Hey, this rug looks comfortable. Let's use it so I have a moment to remember as I'm posing."

His eyebrows shot up and his smile widened. We both peeled off our shirts. He touched my breasts through my bra. My nipples sprang to attention. I noticed something else standing at attention between his legs. We started hurriedly undressing each other the rest of the way, awkwardly kissing at the same time.

Before long, we were both collapsed on the soft rug. He said, "I'd love to do that again without the rush."

I bite my lip and said, "On one condition."

"Name it."

"Yeah, exactly. Tell me your name."

He held out his hand. "Theo. My friend call me Teddybear.”

I shook his hand. "Goldie. Nice to meet you."

"Oh, my God. That's my golden retriever's name."

At least I knew he liked animals. I hoped he would marry a vet.

We laughed as we loaded the rug, and I agreed to meet him after the shoot.

The rug was JUST right!
