One morning, I woke up to the sound of birds outside my window and my mom cooking breakfast downstairs. Suddenly, I started crying. I hadn't cried like that in my whole life. I've been deaf since I was 8.

When I was a kid, my sister asked me to take her to the library after school. She wanted to find some resources to learn sign language. I asked her why. She said there was a deaf boy at school, and she wanted to be his friend. Today, my sister got married, and I stood by her side as she signed "I do" to that boy.

My father was diagnosed with cancer and passed away four years ago. But recently, I found that people kept commenting on his blog. It turned out to be my son. He wrote that he misses his grandpa and told him that he's working hard in school. "I'll find a cure for cancer so that other kids won't have to miss you like I do."

At school, we had an activity where each of us had to stand in front of the class and talk about someone we admire. My friend went up and said she admires a quiet girl in our class and appreciates her kindness. Everyone cheered, but the quiet girl started crying. I later found out that on that day, she had decided not to take her own life.

A few days ago, I noticed that my mom had sold her jewelry, including her and my dad's wedding rings. They used that money to buy lots of Christmas gifts for my younger siblings. My grandparents found out and immediately went out to buy my parents new wedding rings. (In this story, everyone is a loved child.)

A long time ago, I was on the rooftop, planning to end my life. Then I met a boy who came up for lunch. He saw me climbing over the railing, not in a hurry, and asked if I wanted to share lunch with him. I agreed, and he told me, "We should all die for happiness, or at least with a full stomach." Last month, we celebrated our tenth wedding anniversary.

One day, I saw an elderly couple in the mall. They were sitting together, and the grandpa looked at the grandma gently and said, "Jane, we did it. We grew old together."
