There is a stillness in the air that calls
stirring more than just the wind
That picture still hangs on the wall
like a chill just beneath my skin
It's a different kind of heartbreak
mourning a life we never lived
A never ending kind of ache
another ghost lost to the wind
And my heart recalls the dreams we shared
but they never came to be
The losses left me unprepared
remembering life has no guarantees
It's as if the plans we made
made no difference at all
Seems forever's permanently delayed
as the breeze sings it's last call
There is a sadness on my empty walls
of what I thought my life would be
A collage of photos down the hall
the dreams we made of you and me
But they were promises we never kept
and sacred vows we never made
I hope to find true love again, except
I think my soulmate died in ninety eight
It's as if the plans that we had made
made no difference at all
Seems forever is permanently delayed
as the breeze sings it's last call
Time is hungry and it will eat you alive
life serves you up as it's last meal
Hard to find a reason to survive
when you swallow what you feel
Facing a ghost with knuckles of white
searchin' the past to ease my mind
Leaving love I never knew behind
a dreamers dream and flawed design
Grieving a love that never arrived
because the roots refused to cling
Claw marks mark a love that's died
the breeze plays along, as last call sings
And there are flowers on the table
turning brown as leaves fall down
You know I'd give more if I was able
a lighted window of a ghost town
And I drift off in the moment
clinging to chemistry and what ifs
Life, love and death are fierce opponents
chasing what I know, never existed
And last call stings like that cheap whiskey
spinning your head and heart around
Chasing a fantasy is risky
you learn to live a lie so long
Grieving a love that's been denied
because you never meant a thing
Claw marks mark a love that's died
the breeze plays along, as last call sings
And it sings of a goodbye
a melody that you've tuned out
A shattered peace in mid July
as all the fireworks burn out
The broken hearts of last call
with no clue it's all but done
A tattered, beaten ragdoll
at the wrong end of a gun
It sings of goodbye
and farewells
The last time
they played church bells
When the poets
met the dreamers
Trying to forgive
their misdemeanors
But it's too late
it's over
The last mistakes
of friend and lovers
Never to be seen again
last calls for those ghosts in the wind
So, can you see them?
drifting away like candied clouds
Finding their freedom
singing their praises right out loud
The ghosts or angels
making their way into the night
Discarding labels
dancing like starlight in the sky
Declaring last call
cause finales wait for nobody
Their making last calls
and we respond emotionally
We dread those last calls
signaling and end to what we know
You've heard those last calls
you can't stay here, you have to go
There is a stillness in the air that calls
stirring more than just the wind
That picture hangs upon the wall
like the chill hiding beneath my skin
It's a different kind of heartbreak
mourning a life we never lived
A never ending kind of ache
another ghost lost to the wind
