Genesis of Xyra

Symbiosystem

"You know how it started?" Xyra leered over the captured hero on the exam table. "It's funny. Everyone thought I was just another lab coat working on Project Eden in 2057 - a new frontier in bioengineering - they called it. Eden was supposed to be a synergetic ecosystem that wouldn't contaminate or alter other planets with Earth microbes. Executives grew impatient though. So, scientists cut corners. I was a low-level geneticist at the time. When I noticed the flaws, I tried to warn them.

Xyra's eyes flickered a greenish hue, matching the shimmer of microbes beneath her skin. She leaned closer, her voice teeming with bitterness and pride. "Of course they didn't listen. They never listened. So, I tweaked the bi0-codes with mushroom DNA to throw everything off. Unfortunately, the containment system failed.

The hero struggled, but the organic bonds holding him tightened at Xyra's command. "It didn't kill me obviously. Instead, they fused with me. The microorganisms didn't just evolve; they adapted, creating a perfect symbiosis. After the accident my beloved Zell and I got into a heated argument. In a fit of rage the symbiosystem took control and consumed him. That was four years ago. Now I carry an entire ecosystem inside of me that nourishes and protects me. I am stronger, faster," A sly smile creeps across Xyra's face. "Adaptable. I can create, control, and destroy life as I see fit. I am a queen. No. A goddess in the flesh. Relying on instincts and survival."

She tilted her head, examining her captive. "You see, I wasn't born a villain. I was made into one by a system that refused to hear me. They wanted Eden? Well, here I am. Trust me, this world will kneel before my paradise - or be consumed by it."
