BLACK

SLATE:

FAITH (noun)

-A STRONGLY HELD BELIEF OR THEORY

"Life will expand until it fills the universe."

-God

INT. SCIENCE LAB - DAY

SCIENTIST sits in a chair and speaks to the public, "In quantum mechanics, the fate of the future is a chance probability. Albert Einstein was fundamentally against this, saying he didn't believe God would play dice with the universe. But, if we are to truly believe Chaos theory, then we must agree there is no place for God."

INT. LOCKER ROOM - DAY

We see THREE MEN, suiting up into modernized spacesuits.

Slow motion, intense. No faces are seen. Zippers, buttons, boots and jackets. More information regarding the suits here:

EXT. LAUNCH PAD

We follow the feet of Three Men. Walking in slow motion.

We pan across one of their shoulders and see a mission logo.

It says NASA - APOLLO 1 PRIME.

INT. WHITE HOUSE PRESS ROOM - DAY

We see THE PRESIDENT standing at a podium. Camera flashes and busy chatter fills the room. The date appears at the bottom of the screen.

5/2/2029

The President speaks, "We are dealing with the consequences of a Cold War government fueled by paranoia. A time when misdirection and concealment from the American People was a necessity. I, however, assure you that time has ended.

Our strategy is simple: to reignite the manned space exploration program.

We have been working in conjunction with NASA to achieve the goals of a past generation.

Together we can complete mankind's greatest journey.

Our destination is the moon."

The crowd begins chattering loudly.

EXT. LAUNCH PAD

We finally pan up to see the faces of the three astronauts walking in slow motion. Their helmets tucked under their arms. They walk with purpose. They are:

Doctor Jackson.

Captain Adams.

Lance Baxter.

The Three Men turn around, with their helmets at their sides. They look at the massive launch pad and shuttle.

10 WEEKS LATER

EXT. PRESS CONFERENCE - DAY

We see a commentators booth towering above a large crowd of people. There are THREE ANNOUNCERS, sitting side by side, looking out at the events below.

TV SCREEN:

ANNOUNCER 1 says, "Welcome back to the live coverage of Apollo 1 Prime. It has been over two months since we last heard from the President regarding the moon mission. In moments, we will hear him address the nation. He will introduce the astronauts to the world.

As always, space coverage is brought to you by NASA and Nature Springs Bottled Water. Pure spring water from the mountains of Fiji."

The President introduces the crew, "Doctor Conrad Jackson. Doctor Jackson is mission leader. He was the easy choice. And he knows it, always with a slight grin on his face."

INT. WAREHOUSE

We see JACKSON laughing and shaking hands with people. He looks professional, and people seem to look up to him. Imagine documentary style footage, packaged as a press release.

The President continues, "Dr. Jackson has probably the most impressive credentials of the crew."

INT. JACKSON'S LAB - DAY

We see Jackson behind a table. He is analyzing a sample under a microscope and recording the results.

ANNOUNCER 2 says, "Absolutely, he's a chemist, biologist, psychologist, and part-time jazz musician. Legitimate phenomenon."

Jackson instructs a GRAD STUDENT behind a piece of plexiglass, as Jackson manipulates test tubes with robotic arms.

EXT. PRESS CONFERENCE

We slowly zoom in on Jackson, who is standing in front of a large poster of him wearing his NASA uniform.

ANNOUNCER 3 says, "Winning the Nobel Prize in 2025 for being almost the sole developer of the miracle drug TYLOXENIN SIX."

INT. NOBEL PRIZE CEREMONY - STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - NIGHT

Jackson is presented the Nobel Prize in Chemistry.

Announcer 1 speaks next, "That pushes him from a science geek to modern day hero. I mean, sure the drug will sell itself if it keeps celebrities looking young."

EXT. STREET - DAY

Photos pop up on screen of Jackson shaking hands with various celebs.

Announcer 1 continues, "But, anyone with half a brain knows this could be our ticket to curing cancer, AIDS, who knows what else?"

Announcer 2 jumps in, "I don't know what else, but what I do know is that in only 2 years since joining NASA, he became the mission leader, science officer, and medical officer for perhaps the most important voyage in history."
