Five Thoughts on My Knife Fight

No time to think. The man with the knife was coming toward her. I charged him.

First thought: Get in his way!

Easy.

Second thought: Knock the knife away!

Not so easy.

Adrenaline. Struggling. Punching. Stronger than he looked.

Third: Don't get stabbed!

Also, not so easy. But this was an afterthought.

Fourth: Keep her safe.

Oof! He jammed the knife into my left shoulder!

I used his momentum and pulled him down with me.

He bashed his head on a pole. Toppled in a heap.

I did it. I saved her.

Fifth thought: Time to finally say hi.
