Percy Jackson:The Lightning Thief

Fantasy is an escape. A way to step away from the hard path of life.A way to feel free. There are no limits. There are no boundaries. Just you and the unknown. While your fantasy can be tailored made ,there are some worlds that have already been scripted. However they do have something in common:they have the potential to be amazing.

One of the most famous fantasy stories has brought magic into thousands of hearts worldwide. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. The tale of the boy who lived has lived in the pages of novels, and has graced the silver screen. It has even reached into the world of amusement parks.

My favorite part of the J.K. Rowling's Wizarding world is the Fantastic Beast series.Currently, the series includes:Fantastic Beast and Where To Find Them and Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. These two movies are my favorite movies because of my love of mythical monsters.

Another precious series in the world of fantasy is: Lord of the Rings. This title's influence reaches far and wide.It has also made it to the film world with 3 different movies. The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2002) The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (2002) and he Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003).While the series is not my favorite,I can not deny that it has had a major influence on the fantasy genre.

This next title influence reaches so far you don't even have to watch the movies or read the books to know it.In long ago, in a galaxy far far away is the world of star wars.Star Wars has fans in all ages.Toys and collectibles from this series can be worth hundreds and thousands of dollars. You can find Star Wars in almost any retail store. You can find it in any library. You also watch on any major platform. You may even find it on the back of your cereal box.

In my eyes,Star Wars is the peak of storytelling. To be able to create an entire galaxy, filled with millions of people, and thousands of different life forms. The ability to create something this big and unique is astonishing.

Stars Wars has a large library of movies .These are the major ones in release order:

  1. Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope (1977)
  2. Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back (1980)
  3. Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi (1983)
  4. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace (1999)
  5. Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (2002)
  6. Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005)
  7. Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015)
  8. Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (2017)
  9. Star Wars: Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker (2019)

Finally, I offer my favorite and in my opinion the best of the fantasy genre. The Percy Jackson and the Olympians series. This story takes a different take on fantasy from the previous titles. It isn't set in some type of far away land. However it is based on the most magical place of all:New York City. The series follows Percy Jackson a teenager with a lot on his plate.

Of course he isn't your normal teen.He soon finds out he is a Demigod.A Demigod is someone who is half god, half human. Not given anytime to process the life changing information,he is sent on a quest to find the stolen light bolt of Zeus, king of the gods.He even becomes a suspect himself.I must admit the this series did earn itself to movies. However, the were terrible, and did not receive any love from the fan base.

This series really changed my life.I know that sounds dramatic, but it's true. What started out as a English assignment turned into a love of reading. It also led to the love of mythology i mentioned before. The author of the series Rick Riordan has had a major influence on my life.He also sparked my interest in Norse and Egyptian mythology. One of the reasons I love it so much is its modern take on the ancient gods and their stories.

Percy Jackson isn't at the top of many peoples favorites.Maybe it isn't on their list at all.I understand that fact.It definitely is not as popular as the other series mentioned above. However, to me it is a series I can read over and over and enjoy it everything you want to see if it gives you the same feeling these are the books in order,

  1. The Lightning Thief (2005)
  2. The Sea of Monsters (2006)
  3. The Titan's Curse (2007)
  4. The Battle of the Labyrinth (2008)
  5. The Last Olympian (2009)

Congratulations, you made it to the end.The series above are just a few of the gems in this massive genre. Fantasy has been in our lives since the beginning. From the stories you heard as a child to the fantasy you have as an adult. No matter where you go or how old you get, there is one fact that will remain.Everyone has a fantasy.
