Fallen Citadel pt. 3

We had stopped along the way to the caves early in the morning because of Borgan. Borgan was hungry yet again and said “this bread is stale as that beer last night”, I replied “well you were the dumb ass who bought it, didn’t you try it out before?” He chuckled with an “oh right” and continued to eat it anyway. After having been on the road for so long we were used to eating stale things but Borgan complained none the less. You would think as a goblin he would be used to eating crap, but the capital had spoiled him.

Then he made a comment, a comment we all knew was coming. He walked right up to Freya and started sniffing her, and said yup “you smell like shit”. Freya was one with nature as you call it and didn’t bathe often. She didn’t want her prey to smell her when she hunted, but we paid the price of the stench. That Amazonian woman stood up towering over Borgan’s tiny goblin body and said “make another joke like that and Ill crush your small goblin brain”. There it was, he had pissed off Freya,” sigh” again.

While they were bickering back and forth, there was movement in the wheat fields around us. Before we knew it, we were surrounded by elves holding spears and bows at us, and those two dumb asses were still bickering.

I turned around and yelled “shut up both of you and look around”, they paused and put up their hands like the rest of us. Elindresh spoke to them in their language, and I couldn’t understand a thing. They were shocked to see and hear one of their own in our party, and slowly lowered their weapons. One of them approached us and spoke to us all, “why have you come here, we do not want any trouble”, and I replied back. “My name is Finnegan; I am a captain in the Toko guard and we have come to seek your aid”. “Aid for what”, he asked, and I said “Rebellion”. His eyes lit up just like Elindresh and he motioned for us to follow him.

He brought us to their nearby cave in the mountains, and as we entered, I was amazed. They had rebuilt their homes in the enclaves of the hills, and the caves. We passed by their sick and elderly who were coughing and close to death. We were brought to a larger room and in that room sat a woman, their last queen.

Queen Evandria, last her of line, and she was beautiful, but humble. We introduced ourselves and the reason why we came. She responded with a laugh, “so there are humans still foolish enough to oppose Journagen I see”. We told her of the attack on our city, our victory on the battlefield and asked if she was willing to help burn Journagen to the ground. “We are few and dying, but there are those among us who wish to fight and that is their choice whether to follow you or not”. “I ask only that you allow me to join you as well, for I have business I wish to attend to”, “Vengeance for the death of my mother”. I welcomed her aboard, and we spoke to anyone who wished to fight.

They numbered around 500 strong, and though it was small it was enough to cause chaos. We had them start by burning the surrounding wheat fields and attacking the local militias. We progressively destroyed Journagen’s food supply. It wasn’t long before they sent the demon beats after us and in charge of them was a warlock named Uval. Uval tracked us down and we made quick work of his beasties. He on the other hand presented a more difficult challenge.

It took the combined effort of Me, Borgan and Freya to take him down. Freya wore down his magical shield, while I dealt with the beasts he summoned. Sneaky little Borgan waited till uval was weakened physically and shadow stepped behind him, putting a dagger in his back. Elindresh and Harold had protected the elven home from any loose demons. News began to spread in that region of the death of Uval, and the adventurers who killed him. A bounty was placed on our heads and just like that we had them right where we wanted them.

They continued to waste resources sending troops, magicians, warlocks, and other creatures our way. All while we roamed from town to town burning them to the ground. We had survived for 6 months when we received a letter form the King on his messenger hawk. He had rebuilt the army, and was marching for war. Our time to infiltrate the capital had finally come. We informed the King of our adventures here and told him of the army that awaited him when he reached the border. We sent the elves the group up with the main force and we journeyed to the capital city.
