Most of the history of the world happened in a single day: the awakening of man, the rebellion of Elden, the formation of kingdoms, the rise of the vast empire; generations and generations of humanity’s children who lived and died before seeing the sunset.

It was a long day, of course, one that was not supposed to end but did so anyway.

Then came the night, but everyone was too terrified by the sudden darkness to admire the stars in the sky above. The eclipse followed, gold and shadows flowing over the distant crystal moon.

Instead of finding hope in the return of light, humanity sank deeper into despair because strange and horrible things began to happen: the dying refused to leave the world of the living, howling and lamenting, suffering convulsions until their flesh decayed.

The newly born… they arrived without crying, remaining motionless and perpetually silent; empty shells, beings devoid of any spark. We called that time ‘The Long Twilight,’ although the people of the era preferred names like ‘The End of Times’ or ‘The Cataclysm,’ slightly more descriptive.

How did everything change in such a way?

This question went unanswered for decades, so much so that eventually the twilight ended, and life continued with nobody knowing what had happened.

At least until the most spiritual among us, those with a stronger connection to the gods, told us what they had seen in their visions.

It all begins with the empire, as is often the case. The followers of the God of Blood, or commonly called his children, were persecuted for being seen as paying tribute to something profane and grotesque.

They were hunted like animals; it was only a matter of time before few remained, cornered. As a result, Véldred, the Sanguine God, decided to intervene to prevent the annihilation of his children, linking his blood to theirs, thus giving them the supernatural gift of controlling the vital fluid.

What followed from that is history: with this gift, they survived, triumphed, and eventually conquered. The Lineage of Blood soon dominated others, founding a vast empire on the graves of the old kings.

Dréstalt, the radiant god who had given light to the eternal day until then, watched the situation with the patience that only an immortal can have.

He disagreed with Véldred’s actions, as he believed that his followers had an unfair advantage over other mortals, but he thought that solving one divine intervention with another would only cause more problems, so at first, he waited.

However, upon noticing that the domain of The Empire of Blood only became stronger and began to expand even beyond the continent, he decided that he could no longer stand idly by.

The Lord of Light demanded that Véldred sever the blood link with his children. He argued that the reason for creating it had already been resolved: his believers were no longer being persecuted.

However, the Sanguine God, out of pride or love, refused, arguing that if he did so, everything would return to the way it was before. Thus began an unprecedented event, a confrontation between deities for the mortal realm, one that would transform the world irreversibly.

Dréstalt abandoned his divine duties to wield his fire as a weapon, and the day, now without its lord, suddenly disappeared as if it had never been there in the first place.

The remaining divinities felt in their hearts the echoes of fear and despair emanated from the creatures of Oniria, who trembled in the absolute darkness; thus, the deities sought for a way to alleviate the crisis that shook the very foundations of reality.

The Wolf God departed for the underworld, heading to the vastness of the forests and meadows, the roads and villages, to guide the lost mortals to their shelters, leaving the matter of darkness in the hands of the other divinities.

So it began: the Dragon God roared with his fiery breath into the darkness, but darkness prevailed. The Metal God fanned his forge with might, but the sparks that came from there only managed to look like ephemeral fireflies.

Finally, the twin deities of life and death withdrew their hands from the work of souls, beginning a spiral dance within the moon.

The result?

Gold and shadows, an eclipse born from the glow of their resonating souls.

In that perpetual twilight sky, the two gods fiercely and endlessly clashed, while humanity was consumed by fear, confusion, and many other ills while mankind was being consumed by fear and chaos, wandering in the unknown.

As for the outcome of the battle… neither of the two emerged victorious; in fact, it could be said that both were defeated. Dréstalt’s wounds robbed him of his ability to shine eternally, forcing him to rest from time to time from that moment on.

Véldred’s blood, on the other hand, has been burning in the light of day ever since, which has not been a problem for an immortal deity but has been for his worshipers, who share the blood of their godfather. Most of them burned at the first dawn after the Long Twilight.

In simpler words: the night was born, the empire fell, a new era began.
