Eugenia, a young girl, always looked up in wonder at the birds soaring in the sky - one day, she would get the chance to join them. She was nervous but excited as she boarded the airplane, taking her seat by the window. Eugenia’s stomach dropped as the plane lifted off the ground. She closed her eyes, though, and imagined a fantastical world full of avian creatures and otherworldly wonders instead of being afraid. She had always found solace in her imagination, and the thought of escaping to a place where anything was possible helped calm her nerves. As the plane soared higher into the sky, Eugenia felt herself being transported to a world of endless possibilities.

In her mind, Eugenia saw herself riding a magnificent dragon, soaring through the clouds, and breathing fire. She felt the wind rushing through her hair and the warmth of the dragon’s scales against her skin. Eugenia spotted a swarm of fairies approaching as they soared above a magnificent castle. She knew them from a book, and she couldn’t believe her eyes when she saw them in real life. The faeries greeted her warmly and showed her around their land. She witnessed crystal palaces, crystalline ponds teeming with fish and frogs that could converse, and enchanted gardens. Eugenia marveled at the fairies’ magic and felt like she belonged in their realm. At the end of her tour, the fairies walked her back to where she left her dragon. The world shook, and the dragon took off. Eugenia started tumbling, and she opened her eyes.

“Just a little turbulence,” the flight attendant said.

“Everything is fine. Honey, go back to sleep.” Her mom reassured her.

Something large stopped Eugenia from tumbling off the grassy cloud. Eugenia looked up, startled, and asked, “Are you a phoenix?”

“I am,” the Phoenix replied. “Are you interested in a ride?” Asked it.

As she ascended, Eugenia felt the wind whipping past her face and the warmth of the bird’s feathers. Awe overcame Eugenia as they flew through clouds of gold and silver, and she couldn’t help but gasp. Eugenia continued to fly and discover her fantastical world as she made interesting discoveries. She saw mermaids swimming in the glistening blue waters below and unicorns galloping through fields of rainbow-colored flowers.

“Where are we at and why are we landing?” Eugenia asked.

“Land of giants, they are my friends,” the Phoenix said, letting out a loud screeching noise.

The giants, who are so big and covered in fur from head to toe, greeted Eugenia with huge smiles as she hopped off. Lugging the colossal bags on their shoulders, they belted out a joyous tune. Eugenia had never beheld such vast creatures before, and she felt scared. But the giants put her at ease with their gentle smiles and kind words. They offered her some of their food, which was a mix of fruits and vegetables that Eugenia had never seen before. She was initially uncertain, but the giants coaxed her to take a bite, and she found the flavor to be delightful. Eugenia heard the jingle of charms and bells as the giants opened their bags to show her their treasures. They had everything from toys to musical instruments, and even some books. She chose one book to borrow with their permission.

“Well, we have to get back to work.” The head giant said, as they all stood up and waved goodbye to Eugenia and Phoenix. Eugenia and Phoenix waved back and watched as the giants disappeared into the forest and their merry song faded away. Eugenia turned to Phoenix and said, “I never thought I’d meet giants in real life. This has been an incredible adventure.”

Phoenix smiled and replied, “I agree. Let’s continue exploring this magical forest.”

Eugenia and Phoenix flew over the magical forest, the air crisp against their faces as they soared above the treetops. As they soared, they watched the sky gradually darken as the clouds turned a somber shade of gray. Eugenia and Phoenix knew they had to find a place to take shelter before the rain started pouring down.

Phoenix warned her, “It’s time for you to go. You’re not safe here anymore.”

“Why?” Eugenia asked.

“Eugenia. Eugenia, honey,” Eugenia’s mom gently shook her.

When Eugenia woke up, she felt the subtle vibrations of the plane's engines and heard the faint hum of conversation from the other passengers.

“Put your blanket back in your backpack; we are about to land.” Her mom told her.

Eugenia rolled up her blanket, and when she went to put it in her bag, she heard the faint tinkling of bells coming from inside. She smiled in delight when she saw the book the friendly giant had presented her with.
