James scoots himself and his wheelchair into the doorway with his socked feet. No shoes – too much noise. He peers down the hall. All clear. It’s 10:48. He’s got 12 minutes.

James starts shuffling. He doesn’t know exactly what he’ll do once he gets outside, but if he could just-

“Mr. Mansfield, what are you doing out here?”

Rats.

“Oh, I think I forgot my glasses in the day room.”

Nurse Helen spins him around and into his room. “They’re right there on your head, see?”

He smiles at her, feigning gratitude.

Well, there’s always tomorrow.
