Embracing the Devil

Hell-Bound...You had to be there.

Beelzebub the Horse

I awakened smiling... languorously dreamy and lazy, as I rolled over to stare at his sleepy, slightly snoring form...happy thoughts of a warm and cozy life beginning to form at the periphery of my thinking.

My beloved partner in life...one whole year of togetherness and bliss. Such happiness. Today is our anniversary.

Yet, somehow, the air felt imperceptibly different...darker.

An image somewhere in my periphery vision shifted slightly...my head pivoted a few degrees upwards....

Holy sh..!!!...Unholy epithets gushed forth unbidden from my terrified mouth.

This was quickly and penitently followed by a repentant stream of holy pleading...

"HOLY JESUS...GOD...Mary MOTHER OF MERCY....ANGELS...CHRIST AND WHOMEVER OR WHATEVER IS DEEMED HOLY...HELP ME...PLEASE"!!!

When no answer was supplied by the regular Gods...he/she they/them were silent as usual...expecting me to help myself. Sigh!

So - I curled up into fetal pose, invoking my Voodoo ancestral sisters, brothers, fathers, mothers and whomever were within hearing distance.

Now...In the Voodoo teachings of Haiti, New Orleans, and Africa, there is one supreme God and there are spirits that are beneath this God and above men. These Voodoo spirits are known as loa or lwas. There are other spirits that are known as orisha and come from the African teachings of Voodoo. The most important deities and spirits in the religion of Vodou include:

Bondye: The supreme God of Voodoo, the creator of all that exists.

Legba: The spirit of the dead, often associated with the afterlife.

Oshun: The goddess of the sea, known for her ability to bring good fortune.

Maman Brigitte: The goddess of the moon, associated with fertility and childbirth.

Baron Samedi: The king of the dead, often depicted as a skeleton.

Erzulie: The goddess of love and beauty, often associated with the moon.

Ogun: The god of war, often depicted as a warrior or a bull.

BUT I ESPECIALLY NEEDED DAMBALLAH...

Damballah: The god of the underworld, often associated with death and the afterlife.

I had no time to prepare any ceremonies and rituals, but hoped beyond hope that they would intercede on my behalf and provide guidance and protection.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!

The Devil F***er then proceeded to smile, then laugh out loud. The most horrifying thing that I have ever witnessed.

No form of any god was coming to my rescue today.

I promptly fainted...Just before The hammer Dropped and the World Tilted Forward.

I awakened to him shaking me gently, now transformed back to his gorgeous human form...quite concerned for my well being... like "I am a sweet innocent and lovable guy, not the devil whom you had inadvertently caught reveling in his true form".

"Wake up Yvonia darlin'...whatever is the matter". Voice dripping with honeyed concern.

I instantly recoiled from his foul embrace. Did he not realize that I has seen him unmasked and terrifyingly diabolical.

"I have to go to the bathroom".

A hasty retreat to this sanctum followed with a locking of the door. Still...I could not stay there forever...so...

I pled a sudden bout of unwellness, returning to a bed filled with nails and thorns.

Should he stay home from work to attend to me. He asked.

In the blessed name of.... any... of... the... GODS...HELL, NO!...certainly not.

He tended to his bath and toiletries, made me breakfast, got dressed for work...got me pain meds and water...kissed my cheeks, saying he will call to make sure I was okay and drove off in his Hellmobile, or whatever the unholy thing was which he passed off for a car.

The front door slammed shut behind him. Yvonia's feet found wings. She got dressed and hied and hurried to the stables.

Dear Beelzebub waited, munching away peacefully. Quickly he was saddled, up and away they rode...like the devil was...WAIT! The actual devil could very well be chasing her.

"Faster Beelzebub...faster". Yvonia yelled to the already overtaxed horse.

Now she finally grasped why he had wanted her to name the blessed and powerful horse...Beelzebub...F*#%r!

"But from whom or what are we fleeing, I see no devil chasing us"? The horse replied in my head. Hopefully, I was only imagining it.

"There are many of them, Lucifer and all of his minions are coming...all riding horrible fiery creatures, can you not see them". I had replied without even considering who the speaker was. The damned horse was talking.

"First of all, I kind of like your name for me...Beelzebub, I hated it at first, but it has grown on me. Still now you say that many of Satan's other forms are after us, and one even with my name in the bunch...Well...if you can understand me when I speak, then anything is possible".

Yvonia never accepted before that she could correspond with the beloved horse...she thought she was hallucinating...and refused to tell anyone. Now she comprehended that, despite her thoughts to the contrary - she was quite sane. Maybe!!!!

The horse seemed to be on her side. Even that thought seemed to make the situation even more insane...dire and urgent.

Beelzebub slowed slightly, glancing back...and true to her words, he saw them coming. He knew them too...sudden recognition dawning like a black rose unfurling.

Satan, Lucifer, Mephistopheles, Abaddon, Asmodeus, Belial and a posse of black avenging demons, chasing...riding full tilt from the depths of hell.

But it was already too late...The Devil had already corrupted Yvonia.

They all caught up with her, surrounded her...not harming her. Just milling around...as if waiting for something to happen. But what...

The road shook mightily...tilting literally...a huge cavity formed, splitting the path...both horses and riders fell...into the nothingness of fog and fire...

The world above and the world below were silent for what seemed like forever.

Then everything suddenly righted itself. Horse and rider underwent an unholy transformation.

Yvonia slowly began shedding her human form. Molting into something awful at first.

But from the flames of Hell...

She arose...Magnificent...Beautifully Beastly.

Just as the world tilts forward again...

She knows that she should feel betrayed...BUT THE SHEER POWER AND STRENGTH COURSING THROUGH HER VEINS WAS PURE ESCTASY.

Beelzebub the horse neighed an evil, triumphant whinnying nicker.

The Devil walked over and took Yvonia's hand.

Hellish Wedding bells chimed for the Bride of Satan.
