Embers of the Forgotten Realm
Chapter 1 : Sparks Fly :

The sun dipped behind the jagged peaks of the Emberfall Divide, casting the valley in molten gold. Lyra, seventeen-year old, brunette girl with shiny dark eyes ,crouched behind a shattered stone wall, heart hammering, fingertips tingling with magic she barely controlled. She hadn't meant to make the fire bloom like that—just a flicker to warm her hands—but sparks had danced across the cobblestones, singeing the emblem of her rival faction carved into the plaza.
"You call that subtle?" a voice drawled from the shadows. Lyra whipped around to see Kael leaning casually against a crumbling archway, one eyebrow arched, his cloak smudged with soot. "Really, Lyra, if you're going to burn my faction's symbol, at least do it with some style."
Lyra's fingers flared instinctively, a tiny shield of flame crackling between them. "Step back," she warned, trying to sound braver than she felt. "Or I—"
Kael smirked, unfazed. "Or you'll what? Scorch me?"
And just like that, sparks flew—both literal and metaphorical.
Livid, Lyra looked at him with flames in her eyes .
Kael, one year younger than her , taller with soft dark hair and eyes who has travelled long to appear in the realm , has been loved by everyone in Emberfall Divide . "The perfect guy ". Everyone has been laying eyes on him , except Lyra . She has her mind occupied by the studies , wanting to discover new things .
-"Ugh, what would you like Kael ? "
-"Get away from here , my turn to practice ." The girl looked at him confused . "Practice? For what ."
-"I can read minds gloppy. Dont tell me you dont know. Garn will be visiting shortly. "
-"Garn? T-THE GARN? WHAT ??? But , but none of us is prepared .. we cant go against him . We'll.. d-die. " he replied with a laugh : " Im surprised you didnt know. Miss "know" my dear lord. I mean what were you even doing here, except trying to burn my faction symbol..? "
Lyra's cheeks flamed hotter than the sparks dancing at her fingertips. "I—I wasn't trying to burn it! It was an accident!"
Kael pushed off the archway and strode closer, a teasing grin tugging at the corner of his lips. "Accident, huh? Somehow, I doubt that. But it's fine—I like a little chaos now and then." His eyes sparkled with mischief, daring her to retort.
"You like chaos? That's... terrifying," Lyra muttered, straightening her back and trying to look unshaken, though her fingers still tingled with residual magic.
Kael raised an eyebrow. "Terrifying, yes. But also... necessary. And lucky for you, I'm feeling generous today. I'll let you live—on one condition."
Lyra narrowed her eyes. "And what condition is that?"
"You're going to come with me. Garn will be here soon, and you're not going to survive whatever he's planning on your own."
Lyra's stomach dropped. "Come with you? Are you insane? You're from the rival faction! Why would I trust you?"
Kael's grin widened. "Because, my dear Lyra, you don't have a choice. And besides..." He leaned closer, voice dropping to a teasing murmur, "...I quite enjoy watching you squirm."
Lyra clenched her fists, sparks jumping off her palms. "I hate you."
"Not nearly enough," he shot back, and before she could respond, he flicked a tiny flame toward a nearby barrel, igniting it in a harmless flash. "Come on, then. We'll need to move fast if we're going to survive Garn's arrival—and if you keep hiding behind your books, I'm not carrying you."
Lyra bit back a retort, realizing with growing dread—and perhaps a tiny spark of something else—that she had no choice. The arrogant, infuriating Kael was now her only shot at survival.
And that thought made her stomach churn... in more ways than one.
