Being taken by surprise was not something to which Fergalo was accustomed. Every muscle tightened as he rose to his full imposing height. Crimson veins, as if force feeding its energy, began to show. His bodies muscles began to swell, doubling in density. Senses heightened by adrenaline bolstered his responses. The creatures arm now shifted into a massive blade shimmering of elemental power. Surging electricity crackled across its surface.

“We have waited long for this moment demon beast. The extermination of your pitiful species is now at hand. Soon Trizanthia will fall.”

Ferg’s eye twitched at the remark. The fact that this “thing” felt capable of threatening his people infuriated him to no end. With a sarcastic sneer, he pressed for more information.

“The extermination of my kind? Really?” Looking the creature over, he attempted to determine his species.

“You have the visage of an elemental, but the pride of a vampire. How dare you speak my nations name?” Chuckling in fury, Fergalo attempted to maintain his facial composure.

“You dare mock a son of the Dark Lord! No matter, soon we will be using your furs as ornaments for our children waste rags.”

It’s jaw tightened as he swung his blade up, aiming its tip center mass, the elementals featureless face twitched, giving Ferg all he needed to know.

As the creature chuckled, blood began to drop from the corner of Ferg’s mouth. His teeth gnashing into each other in pure unadulterated rage. The crimson color again brightened as it pulsated, coursing through his vein’s.

“So this is some sort of sick game to you huh…genocide is some sort of sick game!!” His final words slathered in vehement anger, barely made it out of his mouth; every breath now a deep guttural growl.

One hefty paw stepped forward, his weight shifting to allow a katana ascension. Slowly, methodically, his left hand reached behind his back; channeling energy. Rain now spattered against their forms. Eyes locked in an unbreakable gaze. Thunder clapped and as if a spell had been broken, they lurched towards each other screaming ferociously.

“Aaaaahhhhhhh…!!!”

Bolts of magical essence exploded from Ferg’s hand as he charged. Closing the distance, he allowed the katana his full attention placing both hands on the hilt. The elemental’s broadsword hissed, deflecting each bolt as it neared him. The crackle of electricity once again embodying it.

The broadsword sliced through the air, barely deflected by the katana. Heat singed the tips of his fur, the electricity emanating from the broadsword coursed into Ferg through his blade. Shocking at first, but once metabolized, a powerful ally. Landing in a puddle of water, the elemental spun, relentless in his attack. Each swing, each parry, contained a single unified thought, Destroy the beasts that destroyed your home!

Ferg, realizing his position, unsheathed his other katana. His sheer physical prowess as a hunter gave him a bit of an edge over the taller than most elemental; but the broad sword was proving to be a bothersome pest. Dashing in and out, he would gain speed and power each time their blades met; manipulating the electrical energy he absorbed with each blow. The rainwater reflected their bout, each never wavering. Countering blade stroke for blade stroke. Neither had landed a solid hit. Be it the absolution of their armor or the evenness of their skill, the warrior’s eyes now gained new respect for their opponent. Pausing from the continuous darting strikes they circled, preparing for another rush, another flurry of steel. Fergalo hunched low, the muscles in his thighs tightening like springs wound in anticipation.

“It's time we ended this.”

“Indeed it is, beast.”

Bringing his hands together Fergalo focused his energy into the blades before him. A deep exhale escaped in his anticipation. This was the moment of truth. The crimson energy now flowed from his body into the blades; entangling itself with them, melding them. As the energy final dissipated there rested…a single large marigold, smiling at him.

“Wakey wakey sleepy head. Time to get up!”

As if knocked on the head his entire psyche unraveled. The ground beneath him opened into a wacky twisty slide of color and rainbows before he landed in a pool; abruptly waking up drenched.

“Ferg are you ok?! I’m sorry! I’m sorry! I couldn’t think of any other way to cool you. You were turning red and starting burn through the bed!”

Turning Ferg noticed the slight scorch marks in the bed of hay he now resided. Rising, he rubbed his now throbbing temple.

“What happened to me?”

Looking around he could see they were again in the barn where they had found the artifact.

“Looks like we’re home.” Bresh pointed towards the barn’s entrance. “Now let’s report to the queen before anyone notices we’re back.”
