There weren’t always dragons in the valley. Humans lived peacefully in the vast dip in the mountains of Snowdrop village.

They lived a simple life in harmony with each other sharing supplies and working hard. But one girl named River wasn’t happy with her life. she did not realize this of course. every day was the same. but as she grew she realized that could definitely get boring.

river‘s big brothers, Lake and Ocean, were her sole caretakers, because her parents had died soon after she was born. They never told her anything. All she knew was that there was an “accident”.

She had questions such as “How could both of them die at the same time?”She accidentally said this out loud and her fellow fruit gatherers glanced up at her in Confusion. “Um, nothing!” She called down, quickly looking to Luna to make sure she hadn’t heard. Luna was “the absolute best human ever”. in river‘s opinion anyway.

Suddenly a massive shadow darkened the sky and River fell out of the tree in alarm. “What was that?” She looked around but no one else seemed to have seen it, except Luna, who was staring open-mouthed at the sky. “I have no idea” river moved closer to Luna, studying the clouds.

“Were we…seeing the same thing at the same time but it isn’t actually real?” River said, the doubt seeping into her voice. “We need to find out what that was, I have a feeling” Luna said excitedly. “Um I don’t know, it looked kind of creepy” river pointed out. “If your too scared I’m going by myself” Luna answered. “I am not scared! Plus if it’s something dangerous, you need me to protect you!” River answered indignantly.

“Do not, but ok” Luna smiled.

They followed the shadow, which seemed to be moving. River looked up, studying it. “it looks like a giant blob with win-“ she was cut of by a loud screech. Followed what sounded like a bark except five times louder.

“What was that?” Luna said nervously. “How did this day start as a boring day and so rapidly turn into an exciting day!” river exclaimed at almost the same time. “You didn’t answer my question” luna said pointedly “Um what’s that big loud dark thing coming out of the forest?” River said.

“Oh no”

Back in snowdrop, lake was frantically searching for where river had run off to, while ocean was at snowdrop village square demanding search party’s. It had only been a few hours, but river never went far, and no one else In The village had seen her, or new where she was. This worried her big brothers. But what happened next worried them even more.

Lake was searching the perimeter of the village when he heard something coming from the forest beyond. No time to contact anyone, he untied his horse, who was grazing nearby and hopped onto the saddle.

He arrived at the edge of the forest just in time to see a massive shape barreling towards him.

Luna and river stared in horror as a gigantic two-headed dog charged at them. They screamed. The beast sprinted right past them, ignoring their very presence. “What” river said, “I don’t even have words” luna said in astonishment. They watched as more and more two-headed dogs appeared out of the woods, all stampeding in the same direction. Then suddenly the shadow followed them and they disappeared into the fog. “Well at least one things clear” Luna said optimistically, “what’s that?” River asked.

“That shadow is gathering an army”.

“Um wait a second. how do you know that?” River countered “it is VERY obvious” Luna said. ”I don’t know….” River said uncertainly. “Look! It’s your brothers!” They both turned to see Lake racing towards them on a horse and Ocean not far behind him. “Brothers!” River cried. “River!” They both cried back, stopping their horses and jumping down. “Did you see that thing?” Lake asked frantically, “ALL those things?” “How could we not” Luna said. “Oh hi Luna” river and lake said simultaneously. River giggled. “Thanks so much for finally realizing I’m here” Luna said sarcastically. “Well what are we going to do now?” River asked, “we cant go back to the village after that”.

“Yes we can” said ocean. “well you can but I’m not. I think I finally know what my destiny is. I need to find out what that was, and I need to find out how my parents really died”. River tilted her head up to the gathering stars just in time to hear a roar echo in the distance.
