Olivia kept the doll clutched tightly to her chest as EMS workers wrapped her in a blanket. They had cleaned the blood from her face, but no one seemed to notice the sanguine polka dots on the doll’s dress.
“What a terrible accident.”
“That poor girl!”
“Did you find anyone else? Oh, god.”
“You can’t speak,” Olivia whispered in the doll’s ear, face blank but voice thrumming with excited, childish energy. “But I know you can still see. It must be crowded in there, but try to get comfortable. Before this is over, you’re going to see much worse.”
