Distant Memories

The love they had was strong, but was it strong enough?

By Marvelous Published 3 years ago 3 min read

Once upon a time in a quaint little town, lived two love birds named Amelia and Ethan. Their love story was like a melody that enchanted the hearts of everyone who heard it. They grew up together, it was like they loved each other from birth as they were inseparable, sharing dreams, laughter and countless cherished memories. Their love was a beacon of hope that seemed invincible.

However, life has a way of introducing unexpected twists into everyone's life.

AMELIA

"Ethan, I am going to be late can you hurry up, I don't want to miss today's orientation for the new intake at work". I yelled, he laughed and yelled back, "I am on my way". I knew that it was not convenient for him to drive me to work everyday since he resumes at his job much later, but it was just the way we always did our things, we loved our company so much, we never wanted to be apart.

I know that I have to talk to him about driving myself now because I just got a promotion and my hours at work were going to be longer, but I was putting off that conversation for has long as I could. I was already stretching our alone time.

Ethan is not as ambitious as I am, I want to build my career and grow my connections as much as I can, but it is becoming difficult. As much as I love him and want to be with him, I realize that I also want growth and success.

As time went on my career grew more demanding and my priorities shifted. Slowly, the world outside started eroding the cocoon of love we had woven around ourselves. Ethan kept holding on to the strings of our love but I was long gone, to far away to reach. We found ourselves drifting apart, like two ships lost in a vast sea. The late night conversations turned into mere exchange of pleasantries. The stolen glances in the midst of a crowd was now replaced with empty stares. The laughter that used to fill the air with joy faded into distant memories.

I didn't want us to end, I hated the distance that was forming between, but I was greedy, I wanted it all, why could I not have my love and my work at the same time, why did I have to choose, I hated it, but I knew that when the time comes, I knew what my choice would be. I love Ethan, but I was too ambitious to let dreams of my career die.

Despite our best efforts, the connections that once seemed unbreakable was slipping away. We both could sense it, and it pained me more than I could express. The moments of silence between us grew longer and heavier, suffocating the love that had once flourished abundantly.

The day we ended would forever be imprinted in my memory, we were standing on the shore of the same beach where we had our first kiss, at that moment I knew I had to let him go, we were merely echoes of the love we once had. Tears poured in torrents as we faced the painful truth - our paths had diverged too far to be united again.

With heavy hearts, we decided to part ways. It was a decision that was neither easy nor painless, but I knew it was necessary. We hugged one last time, a bittersweet embrace that held all the memories we shared.

As I walked away from him, I felt a sense of longing and wished this would not be the end. The echoes of our love resonated in the wind, carrying with them the fragments of a beautiful story that had now come to an end.

The town still remembers them, the couple whose love story once lit up their lives. And as the sun sets behind the horizon, casting a warm glow over the beach, people sometimes hear faint whispers in the wind- whispers of love that was lost, but will forever remain a part of their town's history.
