Evan on the other hand was at work, and thinking what he did wrong. He was just watching some corn videos, so what? Every male watch them, which is not a big deal, right?

Doing his job as if nothing happened, smiling and greeting. Deep down he knew it was just a moment that would disappear when returned home. It was just like any other episode nothing more, nothing new. He had to pretend that he was feeling sorry, but for what? Yeah, for what? So stupid!

He looked so handsome and charming with his uniform work. That white shirt with long sleeves showed his broad shoulders and fit body. Down came his black tight pants and some classic shoes from Johnston and Murphy. His dark black hair was so beautifully styled, combined with his dark eyes. His lips, oh his thick lips, red like the blood and asking to be kissed. Joking, laughing, and making everyone feel happy and satisfied with his service. Evan was just perfect from head to toe.

“Hello, mam! Welcome, back! How are you? Looking gorgeous, special day?” smiling with lips closed provocatively.

“Hi, Evan! How is it going? Yes, well it is my birthday today. So, just something different. But, thank you for your beautiful words.” Smiled back at him. Then…moved her new long eyelashes up and down. Placed one leg on the other and sensually moved her body.

Oh, yes she was caught in his nasty net. He won as always. Now his client would leave him a big tip and maybe more. Who knows…

Evan was walking around happy and as always, so trusty in himself. He enjoyed every second of making everyone believe that he was the best. The best in everything. He would repeat that over and over again to the others and himself “You have to find the right way how to sell something.” So, it did not matter what means he would use; just the results at the end.

“I brought you one of the best wines in the house. The first one is a gift, if you like it you can order more. This a special one just as this occasion. It is a Josh wine, sweet, dark, and filled with passion. It is so light but also can give you the right chills.” Clicking his rings against the wine bottle, he placed it on the table with a little note; “Happy birthday, enjoy it! Today is your special day!”

With a big smile on her face, her eyes sparkled being the center of the attention. Laura was turning only thirty-five today, and you could not see a ring on her left hand. She was a free woman in a free country. For a second he noticed her face, white as snow-white and her hair blonde as the sun. She had such a sweet face which added more to her beauty and finesse.

Looked at that view he almost forgot that had work to do. So, with a nervous smile shook his head and spoke.

“My apology, I have to go back to work. Enjoy your wine.”

Laura and her three girlfriends ordered more than five wines. Maybe more…who was counting? Maybe that wine was really good after all.

Evan, on the other hand, sent so many messages to Emma. They were not read or answered. The last message from her was “I have had enough, it is over!”

He was worried if she was okay, so decided to call his son on his iPad.

“Hi, Noah! Is your mom there? Is she okay? What is she doing?” asked worried and like he cared.

Noah with his sweet voice answered: “Yes, she is fine. She is sleeping in my bed.” Concerned that she did not want to talk to him, he figured it out. They were arguing as they always do. “Hey, did you fight?” asked concerned.

“No, no do not worry. She is just tired. She had been studying a lot. Let her rest sweetie. I will be home soon. Love you, bye.” closed the call and got back to work.

Emma could hear everything; she was not asleep. Her head was against the wall, hiding her pain from Noah. He couldn’t see her sad face. Her calming pills would help her not shake anymore. Why it could not heal her heart? Why do not exist pills to erase feelings? Or do they? They could heal her heart, broken into so many pieces. Those pieces were destroyed for such a long time, held with a thin thread ready to disappear forever…

Now she was silent, tired of fighting. Tired of battling against this invisible war that only she, was able to see. Her heart was getting cold so cold, after... beating so slowly…

At the restaurant, the night was busy. They were unable to take a little break. They had one more hour until close time. Evan ran from a party downstairs to upstairs, helped and served as many clients as he could. Smiled, laughed, and joked to make them feel happy having the best hospitality ever.

He had a good night today. Yet, Laura from the corner table could not get her eyes off Evan. Her girlfriends were teasing to go after him.

“Go get it, girl, he likes you. Just try it, does not bite. It is your birthday.”

“Did you notice his rings? Maybe he is married or something.” she wondered

“Well, if he was…why would he seductively speak to you?” Brynn eluded

“This is your chance,” Christen encouraged

“Okay, Okay. Calm down lions. Take it easy on me.” exhaled nervously

Done with dinner, they left the money on the table. Afterward, Laura and her friends headed towards the exit. Evan was there to thank and greet clients. Without understanding what was happening, Laura gave him an extra tip and a note. Between accidentally touching hands and confused emotions he stood there for a minute.

“Evan, Evan. Come, dude, I need you downstairs. Almost done, come on.” Flavio woke him up.

It has been a very long time since he had a note from a girl, nevertheless from such a beauty. All the minutes that he was working after the note, looked like hours. He was so curious to know what was on that note. Once again, he felt like he was a high school boy, not thirty-six.
