DEMON SECRET MASTER AUTHOR : SQUID LOVES TO DIVE
Chapter 4: Melissa

Chu Mingrui felt confident when he determined the plan. The fear, confusion, and anxiety had receded into the background.
Only then did he notice the fragments of memory that Klein had left behind.
Out of habit, Chu Mingrui stood up and turned off the valve of the pipe. Watching the wall lamp gradually dim and then turn off, he sat down, caressing the brass cylinder of the gun without thinking, pressing his hand against his temple, quietly reminiscing in the red-tinted darkness, like an attentive audience in a movie theater.
Perhaps because of the bullet, Klein's memories were like broken pieces of glass, not only lacking connection but also lacking content. For example, where did this exquisite gun come from? Was it suicide or murder? What did the phrase "Everyone will die, including me" in the diary mean? Was there anything strange that happened two days before the incident?
Not only were those specific memories scattered and lacking, but even though he knew so much, Zhou Mingrui believed that if Klein returned to school, he would probably not be able to graduate. Even though he had just graduated not long ago and was not negligent.
"In two days, I will be interviewing for the history department of Tingen University... Universities in the Ruen Kingdom do not have the tradition of retaining graduates as lecturers... The professor will send a letter of recommendation to Tingen University and another to Backlund University..."
As Zhou Mingrui quietly observed, the red moon outside the window gradually moved west and set. When the first light appeared from the east, a golden color dyed the horizon.
A noise came from the room next door, and footsteps quickly approached the door.
"Melissa is awake... She is always on time." Zhou Mingrui smiled. Under the influence of Klein's memories, he felt that Melissa was his biological sister.
But he doesn't have a sister... A self-deprecating thought appeared.
Unlike Benson and Klein, Melissa had never attended Sunday school of the Dark Goddess Church. When she reached school age, the Ruen Kingdom had implemented the "Elementary Education Method", establishing a lower-level education committee with a large budget.
Over the past three years, many public schools had been established by merging church schools, maintaining the principle of religious neutrality, not being involved in the disputes between the three churches.
Compared to Sunday school which only cost one penny a week, the three-penny weekly tuition for public school seemed high. But Sunday school was only one day, while public school was six days. In fact, the tuition was almost free.
Melissa had been different since she was young, she loved gears, springs, and bearings. She wanted to become a steam engine engineer.
Having suffered from a lack of formal education, Benson understood the importance of education and supported his sister's dream as he supported Klein. Tingen Technical College only required intermediate level, there was no need to go to grammar school or public school to continue studying.
In July last year, when Melissa was only 15, she passed the entrance exam to the Steam and Mechanical Engineering Department of Tingen Technical College. The weekly tuition fee was raised to nine pence.
At the same time, Benson's import-export company was affected by the economic situation in the South Continent, causing profits and workload to plummet. They were forced to cut a third of their staff. To keep their job and maintain their living, Benson had to take on more strenuous work, often working overtime or traveling far away.
