crystal fate

By Tia MontePublished 2 years ago • 1 min read

Ehi walked through the grass that tickled her shins with each step. Her weekly trek out onto the plain was accompanied by a brightly lit full moon this time, with equally luminous stars. She held a stick for self defense and carried a small straw bag with a water pouch and other items she wanted to show the moon.

Ehi sat down on a patch of grass and pulled out a small crystal and crumpled flowers.

“I found this in the river the other day,” she said looking up at the sky. “It’s shiny right? I’m hiding it from mama because, well, you already know what she’d do.” She put the crystal back in her sack as it was too precious to lose.

“These are the first flowers I’ve seen this color.” Ehi held up the red, trampled on flowers to the sky. Her vision blurred and the flowers disappeared in a blink. She heard a rustle in the grass and tried to stand, only to stumble and fall hard onto the ground. A figure appeared in front of her, the bright sky substituted with shadow.

“I have found you, my princess.” Ehi's eyes widened. A woman with dark skin loomed over her. Gold lines and dots painted her face and blueish undertoned skin as long tightly coiled hair flowed down her back.

“Who are you? What do you want with me?” Ehi shook with fear. It was the first time she’s seen someone who looked just like her. Skin beautiful and dark, this time with navy blue eyes that complemented her gold ones.

“I am Efei, your protector. Lady Ehelali you must return home.”
