Droplets of water freezing before hitting the ground coming from the eves of an old cabin. Puffs of smoke crystallizing as the wood stove heats up the stove pipe. Brooklyn stood looking out the window frozen in time as if she was standing outside. She could feel her blood pumping fast, oxygen leaving her lungs, her eyes wide open, starting to panic unable to move.

She remembers watching her daughter play with scope their dog. She remembers turning her back for one second looking at the wood pile beside the stove contiplating going outside for more.

Turning her head back to the window and not seeing her daughter. She feels panic and runs out of the house. She could hear blood curdling screams coming from the frozen lake. She could feel her eyes scanning the shoreline, her worst nightmare comes to play. Her daughters hand sticking out of the water holding the collar of the dog watching her from above.

Her legs move, her heart does not. She calls to the dog to come, hoping that scope can drag her on the ice. The dog moves and the hand of her daughter slips off of the collar.

Brooklyn screams and runs toward the broken ice, then dives in. The water crushes her with such force, her breathing becomes shallow, her eyes couldn’t focus in the black water.

When Brooklyn wakes up in the hospital, she knows, they don’t need to tell her, her world is no longer, she is crushed.
