I took my date to a drive in movie. It was one of the last around. It was a scary movie about a tree that comes to life and wages war on humanity for our global deforestation. The movie ended and I put my arm around her. We were about to make out when a tree fell on my car. “Dang it, she’s a classic,” I shouted. Then we heard the tree growl, and neither of us moved for the rest of the night. When we did get up for help, the tree rolled over us. The war has started.

Detective McGee
I was working the beat, listening to the street. I found clues, the blues were playing, moving my feet. If I found out who did this, they were dead meat. I tracked down a suspect based on witness descriptions, it was neat. He demanded a lawyer and got a law firm, a whole fleet. “It was a doppelgänger, I swear,” he said without a care. I knew I trapped him in my snare. I interrogated him in the dark using only a flare. “We found your fingerprints,” I said and stared. We put him away, he yelled and blared.

>That was a bad idea. I thought you knew… >Oh, the pathos! I don’t really know you as well as I should. In fact, I may not know the real you at all. That essential, sparkling you that you only reveal to a select few. Had I been paying more attention to the stories you are so fond of telling, in which you are invariably author, narrator and protagonist, I would not have been so foolish as to set you up on a blind date. After all, no friend has ever done anything of the kind for another. That’s preposterous. What is a friend, really?

Sunsetting Pride 2024
Happy Pride! As Pride Month 2024 begins to sunset, I want to congratulate every individual who has become brave enough to take control of their life and live as their authentic, beautiful self. This is a month when it highlights those accomplishments. From acceptance within families and friends to acknowledgement in the political arena. Starting with Stonewall (and events prior) leading to the Supreme court ruling for same-sex marriages. We are here, we are queer, and we should never live in fear.
