It began with the seven celestial beings. Ancient, immortal, wise and powerful. Before the universe, their presence predates all things. They were there in the beginning and will persist after the end. Above us and beyond us, they are in the celestial realm without physical form, yet each of them wields the power of gods.

The seven came together to create life. From the celestial realm, they forged our own, and at its core placed a single crystal, which would be a conduit for the seven to govern our physical plane, justly and fairly. Each of the seven would add its own mind, power and will to the crystal. Once complete, it would spark the creation of the universe as it was meant to be. Life would be peaceful, honest and fair, free from pain and suffering.

The First gave Purity; goodness and innocence in thoughts and actions. The Second gave Temperance; the innate knowledge that there is a balance to all things, and that the universe will provide. The Third gave Charity; the selflessness and goodwill to care for all lifeforms for the collective good of the realm. The Fourth gave Diligence; carefulness and persistence, which forge all good things. The Fifth gave Kindness; generosity and consideration for others. The Sixth gave Humility; the knowledge that all living things are created equal, and that no lifeform is greater than another. The Seventh gave Patience; understanding, compassion and abstinence from violence.

But the seven were all deceived, for The Sixth held in secret far less benevolent desires: glory, conquest and domination. The Sixth began to corrupt the crystal, and into it, poured its cruelty, malice and will to dominate all life. Wounded by this evil, the crystal did all it could to prevent itself from being further corrupted - it shattered. Into seven shards the crystal split, one shard for each creator. In this way the evil of The Sixth was perfectly contained in a single shard, leaving the others pure and uncorrupted.

Something happened then, that the seven did not foresee. As the crystal shattered, it caused a divine white light that spread to all the ends of the universe. Stars were shaped, worlds were formed and the life of all things began. For an eternal moment, it seemed as though the dark efforts of The Sixth were in vain. But the corruption of the crystal had taken its toll. Life in our realm was not as the seven had intended. Creations of the crystal had the potential for both hope and hatred; calm and calamity; justice and genocide. The choice between good and evil was now in the hands of all living things.

The crystal had shattered; its shards spread far and wide across the universe. Yet within each shard remained still the mind, power and will of its creator, and these small shards had yet a part to play in shaping the destiny of the universe. An eternity passed, and The Shards of Power were lost to the sands of time. Worlds grew and flourished, with creations having no knowledge of their creators nor the crystal shards from whence they spawned. But the will of the Sixth would not be undone. On the world of Kabu Kai, in the Easternmost part of the Universe, The Dark Shard lay in waiting, a parasite searching for a host to ensnare. With a host, the shard would unleash the evil of The Sixth upon the realm, and bend all life unto its will. The universe’s only hope lies in the six remaining shards, all memory of which has been long since forgotten…
