To be able to move on
I wish this afternoon was behind me!
My heart flutters as I walk up to the door and pause before knocking.
My heartbeat begins to race. My mind speeding through random thoughts; between hoping no one is home to anticipating the first meeting, nervously excited.
The door opens and I stand face to face with an old woman.
I breathe a sigh of relief.
This little old lady can’t harm me anymore, she’s not the powerhouse of strength my inner child remembers. She who bullied me into submission.
With that understanding, I turn and walk away without uttering a word.
I was challenged to write a drabble of the word 'afternoon'.
Wikipedia defines a drabble as follows :
A drabble is a short work of fiction of precisely one hundred words in length. The purpose of the drabble is brevity, testing the author's ability to express interesting and meaningful ideas in a confined space.

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

That old lady was her mother? But why didn't she talk anything?
