"...You didn't!"

"Well, yeah, I...I kinda did."

"With him?"

"...Look, I told you that I'm bisexual and polyamorous. You were cool with that before."

"Yeah; like you'd hook-up with a woman and I'd therefore...kind of, you know...have two girlfriends at one time."

==============================================

Adam Sanford had known that he loved found Lauren Downing really hot from the moment that he had met her that day in Freshman Year. The two had gone out ever since.

Finally, in Junior year, Lauren had seemed to...change. She had grown more and more distant lately and didn't hang out waiting for Adam to get done with basketball practice the way that she used to.

Finally, Adam had sat her down for dinner one evening for one of their more delicate and less scintillating (for him) talks.

"I know I've been a little...distant...lately." Lauren had said over her sip of water as her salad was left ignored.

"Yeah; I knew that too." Adam sniped back, sawing into his steak and shoveling the protein nourishment into his mouth as he glowered daggers at the purported "woman of his dreams;" back when she had waited patiently for the next opportunity to look really good next to him. Across from him and under his stony glare, Lauren started to fidget. This was already not going to be her easiest conversation with anyone, and she had picked a recipient in a peer that she had initially felt that she could trust without prejudgment or gossip. She now questioned that choice, along with her decision to share what came next...

"I'm bisexual, Adam." Lauren declared in as much confidentiality as she could manage without the awkwardness of needing to repeat herself.

Adam Sanford, all-star-basketball player and Class Vice President, sat back in silence for a moment and furrowed his eyebrow.

"Adam?" Lauren asked, desperately.

"...Is that the one where you're willing to have two partners at the same time?" he asked.

Lauren sighed helplessly and glanced at the table, using her napkin to wipe her face.

"No, prince; that's Polyamorous." she amended, glancing about once more for confidentiality. "...Which honestly leads me to my next point. I'm Polyamorous too."

She sat back in her seat once again and waited for what came next.

Adam set his knife and fork down beside his plate and sat back in his own seat.

"...So you could start seeing a woman at any time now?" he asked.

Lauren sat back against her chair again.

"No, not that I'd intentionally do that to you." Lauren reassured him. "But...I mean...yeah, you know how love works."

Adam looked pensive for a moment; then his face brightened.

"...I could have TWO girlfriends!" he declared at a volume that wasn't exactly built for confidentiality.

Lauren flushed in embarrassment over the sudden volume from their corner of the posh restaurant. Nevertheless, she finally Adam's empathy, understanding, and support...

==================================================

That had been Junior Year when Lauren had first confessed her sexual preferences to another party whom she really cared about.

This was Senior Year after Lauren had met James Bradley in her choir class. James had really helped Lauren out of a jam when her car wouldn't start one day and she had treated him to dinner one night while Adam had a basketball game. One dinner later, she really cared about James and his kindness and compassion; and she'd always care about Adam and his popularity and bravado. He knew about Lauren and he'd understand...

...He hadn't understood. As soon as the concept was that Lauren was with another guy, Adam couldn't have been less understanding if he had tried. It was a disappointing revelation for Lauren; but it wasn't as huge of a loss as she had initially thought. James was a guy who truly cared about Lauren; and she could be happy with him. She even trusted him more than she had ever trusted Adam; and if, tomorrow, she fell for someone else, James would be much more understanding...
