“I’m doing the best I can!” I threw my hands up in the air.
The Earth rumbled beneath my feet, “I saw you throw plastic in the garbage.”
I sighed, my face feeling warm.
Yes, I had put a plastic container in the trash instead of recycling it. But that had been one time. And someone had tossed it on the ground long before my arrival; I’d just ensured it didn’t become litter.
So I couldn’t believe Earth was bringing it up now.
“I do plenty of things that help you.”
I volunteered to do park cleanups on the weekends, my house was the pinnacle of energy efficiency, I rode my bicycle to work, and I was picky about the products I purchased.
“I know you do.”
“Then why bring up the plastic container?”
“So you don’t fall into bad habits.”
I pursed my lips.
Earth had a point. And she was desperate for major change.
She started talking to me a few months ago, whispering and then shouting. I thought I was going crazy until I spoke to her, and the ground shook beneath me before she responded.
But I wished she would speak to more people than just me. I was one person and could only do so much to be eco-friendly and conscious.

This is a good reminder ❤️. It’s true that there is only so much change one person can bring about with their own choices.
