“Gary would never cheat,” thought Charlotte as she called her husband.

"Hello."

"Where are you, Gary?" said Charlotte.

“Poker night. Sorry, I thought I told you. I swear I'll be home shortly.”

Charlotte realized he was lying but kept quiet then hung up.

"How are you going to answer a call on a heist?" said Gary’s partner Eric.

Gary joked, "You are the one who told me to answer."

"I thought it would be more suspicious if you didn't," replied Eric.

Gary and Eric had spent months planning the theft, including security and escape routes. The reward was worthwhile.

Other than the phone call, the plan was perfect, and they got the diamonds they came for.

That evening, Gary arrived home, put the loot in the safe, and climbed into bed with his wife.

After falling asleep, the police broke in and arrested him, but the diamonds were gone. However, even without them present, Gary served time as his phone call had put him at the scene of the crime.

Strangely, his wife was also gone, and Gary's accomplice is still at large.

Charlotte reflected sipping her drink on a beach in Mexico,

"Gary would never cheat, but I would..."
