She was drinking a cup of coffee and sitting with some of her books that she just bought. He was also sitting at a table in the cafe section with some books that he just bought and wanted to read right away. Then they saw each other and smiled. He got up and approached her table.
"Can I sit with you? I’m Jack.” he asked, holding his books under his arm.
“Sure, sit down.I’m Gianna.” she said then he took the seat across from hers.
“What books did you get?” she asked, pointing at the books he just put on the table.
“I got a little bit of everything. Dracula, Frankenstein, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.”
“You haven’t read Frankenstein yet?”
“No, is that bad?”
“It’s just surprising honestly. You didn't have to read it in high school?"
"No, I guess my teachers wanted to focus on modern novels."
"Do you want to share a croissant or something? I didn't eat breakfast yet."
"Sure, that'd be great." Gianna said moving her books to the side of the table to make some room.
"Okay, I'll be back in a sec." Jack says smiling and walking to the cafe counter with the cashier behind it. She has long blonde hair, blue eyes and is wearing a uniform.
"Can I have a crossiant please?"
He gets the croissant then he and Gianna each share half of it. Jack looks at his watch and remembers that he has to go soon.
"I have to go pretty soon after we eat this. But can I have your number?"
A few minutes later, Gianna and Jack exchange numbers and leave the bookstore. He leaves the bookstore to go to work and she leaves to go to where she works.
Jack works as a historian and Gianna works as an astronomer.
Later, Gianna and Jack meet again at a party that Gianna's friend has at her house. Gianna tells her friend about Jack when Jack walks through the front door with one of his friends.
Gianna is surprised to see him there. She wants to go over to talk to him when another woman starts talking to him. The two of them seem pretty close but then Jack looks up and sees Gianna.
"Excuse me, but I'm going to grab another drink." Gianna thinks she hears him say to the other woman.
"I wasn't expecting to see you here." Jack says smiling at her then grabs another bottle from the table behind her.
"I wasn't either. Who's that?"
"She's a childhood friend, we haven't seen each other in a while."
"Are you two together?"
"No, we're not. Why?"
"I just wanted to make sure."
"Do you want to go out on a date?"
"That'd be great."
A few days later, Gianna and Jack go on their first date and it goes well.
Then a few months later, they become boyfriend and girlfriend. Gianna and Jack also live in his apartment together. Gianna just came home from working and Jack is making something to eat.
"How was work Gianna?" Jack asks finishing whatever he is making and puts it on the kitchen table.
"It was fine, we think we might have just found a brand new constellation." Gianna replies and they sit across from each other at the table.
"That's amazing. I'm not looking forward to work tomorrow."
"Why?"
"I've just hit a wall. I'm trying to decipher this thing at work."
"Well, you're a very smart guy. You can do it."
"That's one of the reasons why I love you."
"What?"
"You can be very optimistic. I wish I was more like that."
"I wasn't always this optimistic either. You'll get there."
A few months later, Gianna and Jack get married.
