Detective Matt was called to investigate a robbery at the local candy store. The owner claimed that a large amount of candy had been stolen, but there were no signs of forced entry and the security cameras had been turned off.
Matt looked around the store and noticed a trail of candy wrappers leading out the back door. He followed the trail and found himself in the alley behind the store, where he saw a group of squirrels feasting on candy.
Matt couldn't believe his eyes. He had heard of cat burglars before, but squirrel burglars? This was a first.
As he approached the squirrels, they scattered in every direction, leaving a pile of candy wrappers behind. Matt knew he had his suspects, but he needed to catch them in the act.
So he staked out the candy store every night for a week, waiting for the squirrels to return. Finally, on the seventh night, he saw them.
The squirrels were working together, using a complex system of pulleys and levers to open the back door of the candy store. They swarmed inside, grabbing candy by the handfuls and stuffing it into their cheeks.
Matt waited until they had loaded up with as much candy as they could carry, and then he pounced, catching them all red-handed (or red-pawed, as the case may be).
As it turned out, the squirrels had been hoarding candy all winter and had run out of their stash. They had heard about the candy store and couldn't resist the temptation to stock up.
The owner of the candy store was happy to have his stolen candy returned, and Matt had a good laugh about the case of the squirrel burglars.
