Businesswoman Chapter 3
Shirtsleeves to Shirtsleeves
When one of the hard hats had finally been distributed, Loreen knew she had to affix it right in consideration of her hair. She knew both safety and vanity. Two other women and three men walked behind her at the construction site.
“Your company has been around for eighty-three years. If you don’t want the shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in the upcoming generation, I recommend you petition.”
Connor Mcfee looked at Loreen in her eyes. An element of integrity shone through his gaze.
“Petition? Petition what? Whom?” he asked.
“The city of Wilmington, Delaware for starters. These beams to make these houses are of good quality. You’re going to want to petition the state and federal government to get rid of all regulations along with the city.”
“Delaware and the United States are not going to go for it,” Selene Westwood mentioned.
Loreen shrugged. “I’m just pointing it out. Take the advice or not. Once people are free to be businesspeople, there’s a chance that the liberty and quality of life will improve for everyone, not just certain classes.”
The five descendents of the McFee Lumber Company followed Loreen like they were her disciples.
“Regulations and controls do far more damage than any termite could do. They are horrific signs of a mixed economy. Most people claim, ‘America is a free country.’ Almost. It’s a semi-free country.”
“What?”
“I’m sure you heard it said before at least once where someone will declare they can say something or do something. To an extent, it’s true. Not in commerce. Bureaucrats throttle businesses like yours not because you did something corrupt, but because of your goodness.”
“How can we thank you?” Selene asked.
“You already have. You’ve just cleared a deposit for two million dollars. That’s sufficient.”
“We thank you with dollars and minds.”
