BROKER

CHAPTER I: The Eyes Have It

It is often said that, out of desperation, he would survive most of the bad luck that seemed to always come his way. And that’s the crux of it, isn’t it … bad luck, bad days, bad timing, bad decisions … this was his curse. Always bad.

But this day seemed different. Evan didn’t feel desperate today. He seemed calm and collected. A hint of self assuredness he never felt before. There was a little pep in his step. A bounce in his walk. And he didn’t even notice.

Evan sat down at his desk, his coworkers looking his way, whispering faintly about how different he seemed. Eyes darting to his area, as he pressed his back to the swivel chair, he would recline confidently as he carried on a conversation to a client on the phone.

“Well, I’m suggesting you act on this tip post haste, it’s the right time to buy in, you’ll make a shit ton of money if you see it through, but, don’t invest unless you’re prepared to wait it out …” he calmly said to the client, phone resting between his shoulder and head, “Excellent! I’ll send the paperwork right now”.

He hung up the phone, clenched his fist and whispered, “Yes!”.

He needed that win. If he can secure five more deals like it, he’ll be out of the red and he’ll be able to move on without looking over his shoulder all the time. He clicked on the documents needed to secure the deal and emailed them to his client. Well, that’s that, he thought. He grabbed his suit coat and got up to leave for lunch. He had promised a client to meet at Le Café Caché, a popular French café.

While walking a couple blocks to the restaurant, he could hear a faint cry of a bird high above him, he glance up quickly and he noticed a white barn owl flying almost as though he were following him, and looking directly at him while in mid flight. Evan watched the bird fly until it flew into the bright sunlight temporarily blinding him. He stopped suddenly and put his hands up to his eyes, rubbing vigorously on them as if his pupils were burned from the suns harmful rays.

While he rubbed his eyes, Evan felt this sudden surge of pain ripping into his spine, and all the vertebrae attached. He dropped to his knees and his hands slammed onto the cement. His eyes no longer visible, only the whites of his eyes could be seen.

People were walking around him, then slowing down, noticing that something wasn’t right. They started stepping back, and away from him, and while some attempted to help, most just stopped and stared from a distance. A crowd had gathered by now, no one said a thing as they stood there watching this man on his hands and knees just screaming in deep pain.

The first guy placed his hand on Evan, asking him if he was okay, and suddenly his eyes rolled into the back of his head, and he began violently shaking and screaming in pain.

People started gasping and screaming while a third guy who was attempting to lay Evan down, started screaming and violently shaking as well.

That’s when everyone started running away from the three guys screaming, seemingly glued to each other and writhing and convulsing in what appeared to be excruciating pain, in this bizarre scene.

As people screamed and shuffled about, seeking shelter, avoidance, distance, anything, as long as it was away from them, the three men stayed glued to each other riveting in pain and spasms, screaming uncontrollably and jerking about so violently their limbs started to break and fracture, which only increased the pain and made louder the screaming.

A blue and white police cruiser was driving by, when the officer noticed the commotion on the sidewalk and decided to park his car, signal lights on, next to the sidewalk where the three possessed men were. Quickly, he ran up to the three men and before he could grab them to pull them a part, he heard the people yelling at him to not come into contact with them.

He quickly stopped himself from touching them. He could see their pain, hear their pain and feel the pain emitting from their bodies and found himself helpless to their situation. He called an ambulance to come and help, and soon you could hear the faint siren wailing in the distance coming closer and closer.

As the men’s bodies couldn’t take anymore of the shaking and convulsing going through them, their frantic spasming and shaking started to subside and all three fell to the ground, riveting in pain. They were no longer touching each other but they couldn’t move either.

Evan came out of the trance he was in, and suddenly felt a flush of testosterone and muscle attaching itself to him. He became more aware of his surroundings and his senses were all peaking more than ever before. He quickly got to his feet and started walking away from the two men laying on the ground unable to move.

The officer said, “Hey, sir … are you okay? Where are you going? Sir? Sir! Come back, I need to talk to you!”

Evan’s pace quickened and soon he was far away from the officer and couldn’t get over this incredible feeling he was experiencing. He felt like he could outrun a horse if he wanted to. And he could. Remembering his lunch date, he brushed the dirt off his suit and straightened his tie and walked to the restaurant to meet his client.

She noticed him approaching her table, “Oh, he’s much cuter in person than his corporate photo online”, she whispered to herself as she unknowingly batted her eyes and expanded her chest to greet him while still sitting in the booth. He eyed her, quickly glancing over her curvy form and full bottom, so fast she could never have seen him do it. His testosterone was at its fullest and he wanted, no lusted for this woman right then and there. But, he didn’t let on … no, he was surprisingly chill. He still lusted, but with complete control over the situation, his actions and her responses. He was in control.

Quickly he sat down at the table and extended his hand to hers, “Hi, I’m Evan Chase, your Broker. It’s so nice to finally meet you”, he said while his hand lightly drifted and felt her wrist and arm. She didn’t pull back, and was surprised at how she felt, like she couldn’t have stopped him if she wanted to. And she didn’t want him to! She felt completely and utterly helpless and without control, and she felt this crazy lust for him like never before with anyone, not even her husband.

Sensing this, and boggled by the power he seemed to have over this woman, he grinned ever so coyly and pulled out some paper work from his suit jacket pocket and said, “Let’s get this business out of the way … sign this contract and then follow me to the bathroom stall where I will proceed to make you feel like you’ve never, ever felt before, is that clear?”

She was already signing her name to the documents before he finished his sentence and rose up to follow him without question. He was slightly taken aback by this, but began to walk toward the restroom as she followed closely behind him.

No one noticed the pretty blonde walking behind this strapping man. No one paid any mind to them entering the men’s stall together. No on complained at the muffled cries of ecstasy faintly coming from somewhere in the cafe. No one noticed her leave the bathroom thirty-five minutes later, face flushed, newly wrinkled dress, tousled hair, eyes looking dazed and staring at the floor as she walked to the table to retrieve her purse and quickly head for the door. No one noticed the trickle of blood running down the side of her head either. Neither did she.

She scanned the lot looking for her car, temporarily forgetting where she had parked. She didn’t notice the blood trickle down the side of her head until she got to her car, opened the door and sat in the driver seat.

She glanced in the mirror. She felt like she was about to pass out. It was then that she noticed the blood and wondered how it got there. She wondered why she was in the car, where was she? What happened? She had no memory of any of her day prior to this point. Then it happened.

Suddenly she started shaking and convulsing, her eyes rolled into the back of her head and her spine and vertebrae arched back pulsing through and filling her body with violent pain she had never felt before. Her arms violently thrusting about as the bones in her body began to fracture and break, splinting into jagged shards. The screams muffled by the tightly sealed car. Her back arched and you could hear each vertebrae and disc on her spine snap and break with a violent thrust as she began to wail and scream in unknown unbelievable pain. This immense pain had lasted for four minutes and she screamed uncontrollably until she couldn’t scream anymore.

Her body stopped and slowly descended upon the soft leather seat, she lay back on the car seat, unable to move or say anything. She closed her eyes and waited for someone to see her, or to stop breathing.

Whatever comes first.
