I peer through the tiny raining marshmallows, pure white pillows twisting in a flurry before they float to rest upon the bird's feathers.

As the world comes to a still, I press my tongue to the back of my teeth and hold my breath, for fear I might disrupt it despite watching from behind glass.

The snow cushions the birds, cradling them as they deliberate. One looks to the other for a decision, or maybe it is just admiring its partner.

Beyond the birds I see Millie. Her big brown eyes pop with wonder and cheer, magnified by the snow globe. She watches the snow twist again and billow about the birds trapped in the weather. Snap - the illusion cracks and I can see what actually has Millie's fascination.

Snow picks up and whips around our apartment, a cold kiss on her cheek, a caress of her strawberry blonde hair, a squishy white bed to roll in. I see the chaos in her eyes, the pure joy, as the birds race through the pendant lights in the kitchen, dodging the falling snow which grows like an avalanche and buried our couch. I am hip deep while Millie digs herself a cubby.

Her world is a sweet utopia which can't be confined by a sphere of glass! Anything placed around her will shatter as her boundless energy and limitless imagination runs wild.

A smile touches my lips. I am privileged to be here for the adventure with her.

My Millie.

This is so beautiful and moving. Your descriptions are so tender and this story is full of magic. Gorgeous. 💗

  • This is beautiful. Sometimes, I find elaborate description to be very obvious and a bit overdone. That is not the case here. Your descriptions are exquisite AND they feel natural. I want to read this again someday, and another day, and another. Thank you! (Now I want marshmallows).

What a beautiful, heartwarming story. Congrats on the TS.

  • The story "Boundless" is a beautifully crafted narrative, eloquently portraying the mesmerizing interplay between a child's imagination and the simple wonders of nature. The description of snowflakes as "raining marshmallows" and their gentle landing on birds creates a vivid, almost magical scene. It's particularly touching how the perspective shifts from the serene observation of the snow and birds to Millie's vibrant imagination. The transformation of an ordinary apartment into a snowy wonderland through Millie's eyes is a testament to the boundless creativity and joy children find in everyday moments. The author captures the essence of childhood wonder, reminding us of the importance of seeing the world through a lens of curiosity and delight. The story, with its rich imagery and heartwarming narrative, leaves the reader with a sense of warmth and a renewed appreciation for the small, magical moments in life.
