The stale odor of exaltation, inebriation, and fornication clung to the musty languid air, as the rays of daylight crept in. The memory of the night before annihilated. The only proof of its existence translated through Morse code via a pounding headache. The tepid feel of drool or some other questionable fluid pressed against his skin.
Eyes creaking open, trawling over the graveyard of bottles. A sepulcher to sobriety, a shrine to the worship of poor life choices. Bracing hands, pushing upward, the floor resigned its loving embrace on the man's face breaking the austere silence. Producing a sound that would have insighted sexual delight in even the most jaded fly paper fetishist, the man peeled himself off the floor. Tongue questing across desiccated lips in search of oasis, mind desperately attempting to determine the origins of the flavor squatting inside his mouth. Eyes blinked out of sync, as his tongue struggled to identify the texture of the remnants lodged betwixt his teeth. Dry, unpleasant, salty, meat-ish, the ish doing a lot of the heavy lifting in that thought.
His eyes drifted aimlessly over the mostly empty food bowl for the cat lovingly known as Butterball, beside which sat a suspiciously untouched bowl of Chex Mix. His scant active synapses unable to connect thoughts as daylight assaulted his retinas. Hangover violently protesting the intrusion.
“Why is the sun so f**king loud?” he despaired, ending the silence.
A moment before vomiting what was decidedly not Chex Mix.
