Best Laid Plans
Wait, what time is it?
The plan was perfection itself.
Howler triggered the distraction at precisely the right moment. Drawing the guard away.
Flash took their turn, jumping out from nowhere, adding to the confusion, throwing the guard into total chaos.
Sticky Fingers followed just behind Spotter who cleared out the loudest obstacles left in the way then stood by the door, watching for any trouble. Sticky swiped the prize, being told to hush by Spotter when she started cackling over how easy it all was.
Chase stood ready to take the booty and make a break for it. A few quick strides and it was all ours.
“What's in your hands?”
Crud! That was it, the kink in the plan: no one had even heard him open the front door.
“Scatter,” said Chase, taking off like a shot, leaving Sticky standing like a deer in the headlights. Caught red handed.
“Marsha,” said the new guard. “What is that you’re holding?”
“Nothing, Mr. Mason.”
Dad descended on her, taking the tray of fresh cookies out of her hands. “Sure, it’s not little Ms. Sticky Fingers. Where’s Ted? I know he's behind this.”
I ducked out of sight, but it was too late, we were rumbled.

Nice, love it. Full of suspense, but all fun highjinks. Well told.
Alex this was such a great tension-filled piece with a playful ending! I love the reveal and the nicknames, it was great read!
Excellent! The set up was perfect. It totally was going somewhere else in my mind, especially with the mention of the guard. Well done!
Love the feel of this. Feels like The Sandlot... mixed with Calvin & Hobbes... and a dash of Goonies. Really nicely done and thanks for the nostalgia shot :)
