A century ago, titans—colossal humanoid creatures—emerged, wreaking havoc by devouring humanity. In response, humans constructed layers of protective walls, temporarily restoring peace. However, uncertainty looms, questioning the enduring strength of the walls. Within the outermost boundary, Aaron reunites with friends Armand and Mikasa. Standing on an old missile, Aaron's attempt at humor backfires, emphasizing his dissatisfaction with a life confined within the walls.

Expressing his longing to explore beyond, Aaron kicks the missile in frustration, revealing a hidden painting of an ocean. The prospect mesmerizes Mikasa, and Aaron suggests they witness it firsthand. Sneaking toward the exterior wall, they marvel at its immense size. Undeterred by the potential consequences, Aaron plans to climb it, dismissing the existence of titans for a century.

Their endeavors attract the border patrol, leading to a confrontation. Aaron fiercely attacks the guards to protect his friends, catching the attention of Zelda, a friend of Aaron's father and the captain of the soldiers. Zelda intervenes, promising personal discipline for the lawbreakers and recognizing Aaron's desire for freedom.

Suddenly, an explosion rocks the ground, and a colossal titan appears, breaching the wall. Chaos ensues as numerous titans flood the city, displaying fast regeneration and wreaking havoc. Amid the panic, Aaron witnesses Mikasa's valiant attempt to save a baby from a titan, ending tragically. Separated from Mikasa during the chaos, Aaron futilely watches as a titan approaches her.

Two years later, the military plans to reclaim breached outer districts suffering from food shortages, increased mortality, and crime. Aaron, now part of the military alongside Armin, encounters Captain Hinge showcasing a grappling device intended for titan combat but causing unintended casualties.

As the military faces challenges, including repairing walls and reclaiming farmland, Aaron, Armin, and Mikasa reunite. Captain Zaldo, disheartened by the grim circumstances, emphasizes the necessity of their mission to blow up a wall section. Their goal is to lower the wall, allowing titans to be eradicated while preserving the city.

The soldiers embark on the mission, navigating the dangers of titans that are alert to sound. Unforeseen circumstances unfold, leading to a confrontation with titans. Captain Shikishima intervenes, displaying exceptional titan combat skills, while Mikasa reappears, revealing her evolved abilities.

The narrative takes a tragic turn as titans relentlessly attack, causing casualties among the soldiers. Mikasa's altered demeanor becomes apparent to Aaron, signaling a changed reality. In the midst of chaos, the city faces destruction, and Aaron, witnessing Mikasa's apparent death, vows to annihilate the titans.

The story concludes with a berserker titan emerging, later revealed to be Aaron in titan form. Mikasa recognizes him, prompting a transformative sequence where Aaron regains his human form. As the captivated onlookers witness this miraculous event, the film leaves lingering questions about the consequences of Aaron's newfound powers and the future battles against the titans.
