There were monsters everywhere!

And then, everybody died!

Yeah, I know, a horribly way to start a story, but that’s way it actually happened. Everyone died. Okay, that’s not entirely true, “Everybody” didn’t die, but so many people did, that it really did feel like everybody. Seriously, 90% of the planet simply died one day, and no one seemed to know or understand why. At first, we all thought that they were going to come back as zombies like they do in the movies, only that didn’t happen either. On some level, that would have been preferable to what did happen.

We were invaded by other-worldy creatures; ghouls, vampyres, werewülves, gargoyles, and

things for which we didn’t actually have any names. Things from some the deepest, darkest pits of some twisted thing out of the brain of H.P. Lovecraft, as told by Stephen King, and re-imagined by Tom Savini. Yeah, some seriously screwed up s#it. We were outnumbered, outgunned, and outmystified, but still we fought back. We fought back with everything at our disposal, guns, fire, holy relics, everything, sometimes even our hands when nothing else was available. It was the only thing we knew how to do. Fight back.

We were pretty much doomed from the start, but that didn’t stop us from fighting back. Sure, there were those that simply gave up, or gave in. The ones who were too weak to go on, but a small

cadre of us simply refused to give into the darkness. It wasn’t because we were braver or even because we were stronger. It was simply because we were angry and too stubborn (or too stupid) to just give in to the inevitable. We knew we were all going to die as well, but we simply refused to go quietly off into that good night. No, we were going to take as many of those unholy evil bastards with us as we possibly could.

So here we were, not quite 50 of us, perhaps the last inhabitants on the planet all huddled together in this one spot, ready to stand shoulder-to-shoulder, back-to-back to make one final stand against these twisted, malignant horrors from the deepest darkest pits of Hell. Sure, we were going to die, but we were sure as Hades going to take as many of those bastards with us as we could. ‘cause there was one thing that was for sure, we may be doomed, but we were humans of Earth, and we knew that we were the biggest, baddest, muther-truckers that ever populated a planet, and we not only give

worse than we get, but we don’t take any crap, and we don’t back down, so anyone who tries to take us on, had better be prepared to take a boatload of damage, because we don’t go down easy.

Well, it looks like this is it. We can hear them gathering; massing for one final assault. So then, this is it. Time to go. Nice knowing you all.
